Coming soon to your Android living room

Work has been progressing furiously to provide a living room client to Android users. We're aiming for a January release of an update to the current client that will be geared towards 10' use. I'd originally hoped it would be under peoples trees for Christmas.

The players

The whole UI has been built with the intent to make physical remote navigation much easier. The new player UI has full support for playlist navigation, chapter/audio/subtitle selection.

Here's a teaser!

fun fact: The videos were recorded on my Nexus 7 using the web client on my PC to navigate the Android client remotely.

What about the Rest!

Because of plans to also provide a native Android TV client. I've chosen to develop something that feels familiar to the community. The UI is very MBC inspired.

Looks awesome red! Couple of questions.

1. Will this work on the fire tv and nexus players?

2. Will it output 5.1 and 7.1? I hate plex only doing stereo on the fire tv

3. Who do we make the check out to

Can't wait for this if it does work on the Fire TV Stick. I can't help but wonder if this does work on the Fire TV will it support the voice remote?

Looks fantastic, unfortunately, I don't have a 10" android device at the moment.  But, if/when I do, this will be first on my install list!

Well done!

Awesome, I have been waiting for something that is specifically design for android living room client.

Does it have a backdrop rotations for movies and TV shows menu?

To run efficiently what is the minimum system requirements?

Do you have a beta version for one to play around with?

Cheers and great job

Yes the backdrops rotate in the various views whenever the item has more than one. The overviews on the list & coverflow views also scrolls automatically if there's more text than can be displayed.

The Living Room UI should work on any Android 4.0+ device. Same as the mobile UI. Were actively testing as development progresses and aim to support as many devices as possible. This client won't be available for Android TV devices (Nexus Player for example), but there is an MB Android TV client being developed. So hopefully all bases will be covered.

It will work on the FIre TV. I'm using this UI on my Fire TV as my primary HTPC. As for the audio, I wouldn't want just stereo audio on an HTPC either. We're doing everything we can to improve playback including trying to find ways to easily provide multi-channel audio to users. The holy grail would be Dolby Digital on devices that support it.

The client does NOT support the voice search on a Fire TV. Amazon has locked down that feature and only a few apps are allowed access. Those with deep pockets. If Amazon does open up that feature, I'll be right in there to support it.

We've always talked about how great it would have been to have WMC packaged on a standalone box back in the day.   This is definitely the next best thing for me.  Get a cheap (relatively speaking) android TV box, throw on the 10' client, done and done.  An easy to use interface that the family can all grasp.  Not to mention the ability to throw on whatever android app you want.  My brother and I were hoping that something like this would come out.  Couldn't be happier, excellent work.

Just FYI Google just released the android TV launcher on the play store. Although I believe you have to have android 5.0 to install but could make for nice next generation android sticks.

Does MBC android allow for these following:

•  A launcher so when one powered up Box it launch straight to MBC User interface (UI)

•  Users profile configuration

•  custom menu configuration say include menu for Genres

• lockdown UI config to prevent settings changes

•  overcome waiting time for content loading before/ after  movies are requested/played as being experienced with xbmc3/Kodi

Cheers great work.

Hi Redshirt -Just  a quick question, I spotted a Live TV menu in  the 3rd picture posted on this subject, what is the source of the Live TV or possible sources of  Live TV backend, i.e. a direct plugin to MB3 or an external Live TV plugin.

Your kind reply will be appreciated

Cheers

So which devices will this be available for? Fire TV? Not the actual android tv platform? This is going to be different than the android client that's currently available.

I am very anxious for this release. I am running the current android client on the TV in my bedroom. I had initially hoped to replace the living room PC with an android 4.0+ device as well. Mostly for aesthetic reasons. The big PC is ugly and noisy. However, while very greatful for the existing MB android client, it was not as user friendly and enjoyable to use as the Windows client I am used to. So I put that on hold hoping somebody would design a more "remote control" and user friendly client for the andoid. Hoping and praying this does the trick.

Any idea on an ETA? Like I said, very anxious.

Will this be a separate download or an update to the existing client?

I sideloaded this onto my Nexus Player, and I LOVE it! It is great to be able to browse my library on my TV with such ease!

I am looking forward to the official Android TV App! Great work!

+1 on the live TV guide. I am a convert from the remote media center app which has been buggy for years. This app works flawlessly and the only thing the other app has over it is the live TV guide. If the other app that has been around forever has it I sure hope this app can get it as well. It would truly be the most perfect solution ever. Thanks in advance.

I don't mean to be rude but how about some follow up. It has been months since the announcement that it was coming soon and months passed the announced ETA, and we've heard nothing from the developer. Is this dead? Has it been released? What's the deal?
