Media Browser Server 3.0.5287 Beta Released

The Infrastructure Release

That's probably the best way to describe this as it brings a lot of improvements to existing features. Let's jump right into the highlights:

  • New text subtitle delivery system
  • New metadata refresh options
  • DLNA Improvements
  • New Channels
  • New Channel Improvements
  • Unified web interface

New Text Subtitle Delivery System

The server now has the ability to deliver text subtitles directly to the client, thereby eliminating the need to "burn them in" on the fly. What does this mean? It means that the server will no longer be forced to transcode on account of subtitles (though it may still for other reasons). It also means that clients have the ability to customize the appearance of the text. Notice in the screen below, this is how the Chrome browser chooses to render them, but in the future, we can offer customization around this.

Ask the developer of your favorite client to support this new delivery system. It is currently used by the web client, and is coming soon to Roku.

New Metadata Refresh Options

When you refresh metadata using the web interface, you now have the ability to replace all images as well. The "Identify" feature will do this automatically.

DLNA Improvements

  • User audio language preferences now respected
  • User subtitle language preferences now respected
  • Seek is supported via remote control
  • Changing audio/subtitle tracks on fly is now supported via remote control
  • Numerous DLNA server improvements - more devices should be supported now
  • Playing a music album or folder should now function correctly

New Channels

Thanks to Snazy2000's continued efforts, the list of available channels is growing rapidly.

New Channel Improvements

Now you're able to see your latest channel items just like any other content.

Some channels also support downloading content ahead of time for smoother viewing:

Unified Web Interface

The web interface now has the same look wherever you are and should be easier to navigate and learn, no matter how you use it.

Also there is a new "Media Folders" configuration option for the web client. While the interface is designed around views that you customize, we understand many will prefer plain folder navigation.

We've also listened to your feedback and brought back the Suggested section in the tv area. Now you can view suggestions on both the home page, and within the tv section.

QUALITY selection in the WebUI player does not show any selection options when pressed after MBS upgrade. Tried it with both Chrome and IE. Same with AUDIO selection in WebUI player.
