Have you tried XBMB3C?

If not, why not? XBMB3C brings together the vast feature set of Xbmc with the power of Media Browser Server. It also has some beautiful skins and runs on just about any platform.

Here are some recent feature highlights:

  • New Gotham repo, supporting Gotham skins and features
  • Channel support

Let's take a look at some of the skins it has to offer.

Xperience1080++

Any user of Neo, Pearl or Square should appreciate this one. It's minimalistic, easy to use, and keeps the focus on your artwork.

Look at how pretty the box set display is:

Emminence

It's pretty and modern, with clean, straight edges.

Others

Look at all these view settings. Any former Subdued user will appreciate that!

I am a user of XBMB3C. It has become my client of choice because it just does so much and does it well.

The skin support the creators have supplied is awesome. If you just want a simple skin that doesn't require you to do anything but install and go then you can't go wrong with the Confluence Mod. I commonly switch between that one and the Aeon Nox Mod.

This plugin has come a long way since it's first creation and the developers are super helpful if you have questions or issues!

That screenshot with the focus on the Hobbit looks REALLY nice.

Such a polished look.

Hopefully MBT will look like that soon enough!

I mean really, how is this complicated...it looks like our beloved Neo.

Using this with the modified Emminence skin to hold me over until MBT is at a point I can retire XBMC.  Keep up the good work guys.

I'm using this, there are other skins available too. All are good looking and easy to navigate. Highly recommend

I am actually thinking about retiring Media Browser Classic and going back to using XBMC. Some of these skins look really good.

I'm interested, tell me more about this and its capabilities. Where do I get started?

If there is one thing that will get me to stop using MBC and Media Center it looks like it would be this. Will be trying this out on a test bed.

Sorry but i've got couple of questions, one related and other two a bit more basic :-)

1, How is Live TV handled with XBMB3C ?

2, How do you split Movie sections with Media Browser 3 ? For example with Plex I've got Home Movies, Movie-CZ (for my Czech girlfriend - these movies do not have any metadata ) and Movies (with freebase/IMDB metadata) They are separate sections and obviously are not meant to be grouped together.

3, Same as above but with TV Sections. With Plex I've got TV Archive Section, TV Shows Section ('acquired' episodes) and TV Recordings Section for recorded TV (for now using MCE). Again, these are not meant to be mixed as 1 section is static and has metadata, the other has theTVDB metadata downloaded as needed and TV Recordings get metadata from wtv files.

Thank you

1. I haven't used it myself - I would recommend using the XBMC live TV which integrates with the same backends myself.

2/3.  By default we set up 'All Movies' and 'All TV' nodes, however you can set up nodes pointing to your custom collections.  How is slightly different depending on the skin.

Join us over in the forum with what skin you are using and we can get you set up.

I tried it, but I didn't understand the pupose of it so I removed it. I looked through the XBMB3C forums and found info about how to set it up and posts about different themes, but nothing about why I should use it. I use XBMC (have been using XBMC since back in the original xbox days) for almost all my media (videos and music) at my house. The only thing I can't use it for is TV/DVR since my provider encrypts (cablecard) channels and I have to use Windows Media Center. So right now MB Server provides all metadata management and artwork/nfo creation and XBMC is the front end to play the files at home. I also use the MB server so my family and I can access/stream the library while we are away using the web interface (awesome feature!).

I am really curious about XBMB3C and interested to know the benefit of using it.

Thanks!

It does away with the local concept of media in xbmc. Plugins such as tvtunes , artworkdownloader, are no longer needed, watched status/resume points etc are kept in synch. You no longer would need to scan in new media in both MB3 and xbmc.

If you watch things on more than one device (or as you stated when your away) then by using xbmb3c those devices would know what you had watched.

Basically it provides a multi client to one server approach..where using xbmc on it's own (without MySQL) is a single client model where each xbmc install needs to scan in its own media etc

Good info, thanks. I may have to give XBMB3C another shot.

I do not currently use tvtunes (not interested in this feature) or artworkdownloader. I have XBMC set to local artwork so it uses all the MB3 provided files. Yes, the single client model of XBMC is a bummer. I do like the server and client model of MB3, but the MB3 clients are really lacking in the music area so I can't switch from XBMC.

I am really enjoying xbmb3 with the Arctic skin but one thing that annoys me is that you cannot play recorded TV from the TV Shows tab, All TV. The shows are there but nothing happens when you click. You have to go to the Live TV tab and then Recordings. The Recordings tab has no art, just a list of titles and you can't tell what season or episode even though I renamed them.

Although I am keen to try out a other system, I do not see any need/benefit to install XBMC on any machine I own. The live TV support on XBMC is just not very good. It is slow to change channels and above all: no encrypted channel support. For those needing lots and lots of plug-ins, XBMC may have some benefit(although MBC plug-in database is also getting bigger) but for me, I keep using WMC/MBS/MBC it is BY FAR the best and most professional TV and Movie watching experience in a single integrated platform and WMC is still good till the 2020's

As a side note, I do believe that for a average user, setting up a XBMC/XBMB3C/MBS combo is not a trivial task!
