mswguitar 1
Hello, I am having issues with the newest version of the Roku app and transcoding.I am trying to watch an MP4 file created with Play-On/Playlater. When I watch it through the old "unsupported" version of the Media Browswer Roku app, it direct streams with no transcoding. When I then watch the same MP4 file on the latest version of the Roku Media Browser app (1.52), it transcodes/stream copies the file. Both versions of the Media Browser Roku app have the video quality set to 6.2 Mbps, and the MP4 file is 2.4 Mbps. One thing I noticed is that Play-On recently updated their software, and now there is a 3rd "Video" stream with a PNG codec (I'm guessing maybe a thumbnail)? When I watch an MP4 created with the older version of Playlater, it direct plays fine on both Media Browser Roku apps. I'm not sure of the new "stream" is causing the problem, but if it is, it's interesting that the old version handles it without transcoding. I've attached the log files and screen shots of the media info for a file I'm having a problem with, as well as a file created with the old Playlater software that plays fine on both versions. Any info on how to avoid transcoding would be great. Thanks in advance. server-63545040000.txt transcode-291cf247-6c05-4a44-a6d0-c06e9bc23775.txt
Luke 37065
the old app doesn't have as many checks and as a result could end up direct streaming some content that shouldn't be direct streamed. if you really want to find out why, see the github page for the new channel, install the zip and use the debug console to find out why it didn't direct stream. mswguitar 1
Ah, ok. Well if/when I have the time, I'll try to debug it and see why it's transcoding. For now, I ran the MP4 files through XMedia Recode and had it re-write the file with the main video and audio stream (it didn't see the 3rd PNG stream). After doing the and refreshing the library, MediaBrowser only showed the 2 streams and it direct-played fine with no transcoding.
