foghat 65 Posted September 10, 2014 Share Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) Hi, Just read Luke's blog post about using the server as a primary player. I think the idea is brilliant. In playing around a bit, I have noticed some odd behavior. Using safari, if I type in the server url or use a bookmark my server works as one would expect - I can use all the server functionality no problem, plus I have all my web browser elements - url input, back button, options, etc. Safari has an option to 'pin' a given url to the Home Screen - ideal for the kids, as now the server looks just like any other app - click and go. Plus I can create a home and away version with the proper urls. This is where things get a bit weird. When using the media browser icon pinned on the home screen, the server functionality works as expected, however there are no browser elements. This actually is not entirely bad, as it now look more like an app and you don't lose screen real estate. But. It is nice having a back button, which is now missing. The loss of browser elements does not happen when I pin other webpages to the Home Screen, so not sure this is entirely a Safari issue. Anyway, not necessarily a problem (though it would be nice to have that back button), but it does seem like something is going on here. Any thoughts or comments as to why this is happening? Don't disagree there. Just not sure why I lose my browser elements when launching from the pinned 'app' @@Luke since server is being promoted as an actual 'viewing' option on phones and tablets, is adding navigation functionality (really just need a back button, I think) to the interface on any road maps? After you do that you should have the browser back button available. Brilliant! I was trying to figure out why adding MBS Dashboard to the iPad home screen behaved like a sandboxed App before. Now with 3.0.5366.22005 it simply opens up a Safari tab with my other browsing sessions, navigation and all available. We like that! Now why does it not multi-task? If I'm listening to a music queue, returning to the home screen or switching to another app terminates the playback. Or is that more Safari limitation, or is there a way that can be accomplished? After you do that you should have the browser back button available. While I do like it that I can navigatie, I would like it better when it was dealt with in the webclient itself. It has now lost the look of an app and has become 'just another website' I still know the power of it, but I've shown the webclient to lots off people and all asked me what the name of that app was because they all love it. That magic seems gone when it's 'just another website'. The other thing is that the you simply miss screen area for Media Browser now that is occupied by the addressbar and tabs. We get more area back because the adressbar and tabs hide, but have to do more scrolling to get them back to navigate..... I am not sure how it works in Android. in ios when you go left to right, there is animation - it looks like you are dragging the current page off of the previous page - more and more of the page underneath gets exposed the further you drag the current page. Similarly when going right to left (forward), it looks like you are pulling the more recent page back onto the current page. Maybe sounds a little weird, but makes sense when you see it in action.
