perry59 7
Its awesome that playlists have been implemented! Maybe I have not set them up properly, but it seems they are lacking some functionality. First, I'd like the playlist to just start playing when clicked, don't make me click the play button on the media too. Second, Play ALL in the list, don't stop after the first one plays and make me click the next one (kinda defeats the purpose of playlist doesn't it?)Third, after a selection plays, it resets the volume way down low and I have to turn it back up again on every file. is there some way I can "fix" these unwanted behaviours? Luke 36888
you can right click play, tap hold play, or there's a big play button on the playlist page. I'm not sure about the other two. haven't seen those before.
perry59 7
when I go to my playlist page (in the web client), there is no play button at all. If I hover over the image of the playlist, a play button appears. when I click that then a menu appears (play, shuffle, etc.) so then I hit the play selection on the menu which brings me to a black screen with yet another play button at the bottom. That's 3 times I have to hit play to get the file to play!
Luke 36888
well sorry. the right click or tap hold method reduces that by one click. the big play button for the playlist is on the page for that playlist.
perry59 7
Perhaps the IE stuff you noted might also be responsible for all the items in the playlist not playing one after the other. (actually I DID find they will start playing if you wait long enough) maybe that's why the volume gets reset too. I'd like to keep IE as my default browser, is it possible to set the web client to use a specific browser?
perry59 7
I downloaded chrome, found out how to make a desktop shortcut which will open the dashboard via chrome. Its working great now! It took care of the playlist issues! all the items play and the volume doesn't change. IE is still my default browser, chrome only runs when I start WB. Woot! perry59 7
Don't get me wrong Luke. I was not trying to complain. I love MB, it's hands-down the best media center ever (and I've tried just about all of them). I've been an MB fan for years and would never even think of using anything else. I know you guys put a HELLUVA lot of work into this and it shows. I just hope that Micro$oft doesn't buy you out! Perhaps I am just not using this function correctly and someone can show me a better way. Anyway, here is the sequence I have been doing: 1. open the main playlists page (It would be nice to just select one of the lists here and hit PLAY) Hovering over a list brings up a play button hitting that play button then invokes a menu with another play button. hitting that play button then brings up the media player screen with yet another play button! Finally, after hitting 3 play buttons, the playlist plays. seems like a lot of button pushing. Is there another method of doing this? Solution Luke 36888 Posted September 17, 2014 Solution Share Posted September 17, 2014 well the last one you can thank microsoft for. internet explorer doesn't allow auto-playing of videos, so that's why you have to click the IE play button. Users of chrome, firefox and safari aren't subjected to that (except on mobile). it also looks like you didn't try the right click or tap hold methods, which would reduce another click from the beginning.
perry59 7
Just one other thing about playlists, and I think this is actually a bug. I can't change the image associated with a playlist. I go into the metadata editor and it lets me find an image to apply to the playlist but when going back into the playlist page nothing has changed. It works for everything else. FrostByte 5024
I'm not seeing the same thing with IE stopping, or changing the volume. I have 500 songs in my first playlist (I do not like the limit btw) and all seems to be playing okay, though I have to admit I've never sat there and waited for all 500 to play. perry59 7
A couple other things regarding playlists. Once the list begins playing, it stops after the first entry and requires me to hit play on subsequent entries. Can the default behavior be set to play ALL the items in the list? Also, after each entry plays, the volume gets reset to a low value and I have to re-adjust it each time a new item starts playing. Can this be set up so the volume is not changed during playlist execution? thanks
perry59 7
well there is also http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/blog/1/entry-103-smart-player-for-media-browser-a-few-changes/ this is a win 8.1 app, so it wont work on my win 7 desktop where the server is running. Also, it only works with the web client. On my windows tablet I prefer to use the beautiful MB windows app (which, unfortunately bombs even worse with playlists) I'll try the "Chrome fix" on my tablet and see how that works. Thank you Microsoft (NOT!) well, that explains that. I just tried the right click method and, yes, it DOES shorten the sequence! Thank you! I assume though that the "tap and hold" is for use on touchscreens though? would that be done on the first "page" too? where I just did the right click? I may just have to install chrome for this, although I don't like chrome!

FrostByte 5024
Ya, I just realized from your last comment to Luke that we were probably running different versions of IE. I'm running Win8.1/IE11 on my desktop/server.

perry59 7
Well that's an interesting screenshot... Luke 36888
this only affects video. IE can autoplay audio. and yes, when advancing through a video playlist, in IE you will have to hit play with each one. That's the reason IE is currently the only browser that doesn't get the cinema intros plugin support.

Setting it up with Chrome fixed it though, working beautiful now where you aware of the playlist object not accepting a custom image? Thanks!
