iOS 8.0.2 Web Client -iPhone 6

So I am personally an avid android user, but my work just ordered me a 128gb iPhone 6. I am doing my best to like it, but the jury's still out.

My biggest hangup right now is that media browser web client runs terribly in safari and chrome. The app works fine for movies and shows, but for live stuff I use the web client. I am more than happy to provide logs, but nearly everything works poorly. For instance, typically, I log in and go to live tv, channels, filter, favorites. This process usually locks up around applying a filter (favorites) time, but sometimes freezes just loading channels. Also, I have found that the only way I can get the video player to show up for live tv is to switch between wifi and cellular, it doesn't matter the direction, just as long as the data stream is interrupted. After that, when the player loads, toggling play a couple times or subtitle controls will start the video. Weird.

I have tested on an iPad mini retina and iPad 2 on ios8.0.2 and they pull up the player properly though they are still finicky.

Any help you can offer is appreciated.

Seems worst on my iPhone 6. IPads are better but not android good. Tested on my wife's iPhone 6 too and it behaves the same as mine. Again, on android and pc web clients everything works beautifully locally and remotely.

Oh, this topic was interesting. I have the exact same experience as nsmal24. I always thought that this was something you knew about so I've never reported it.

The app works great for Movies and TV Shows but since it's not supported in the apps I need to use the webclient. It almost never works for Live stuff, but for movies it works great even here.

LiveTV through webclient works GREAT from a computer using any browser but almost never from an iOS device. I've tried it with different version of iOS (except 8), on iPhones 4 and 5 and iPads. Always the exact same result.

Mostly it hangs loading the channel list, if I get through this part I can never start a stream. On the first try it always times out and hangs and the only way to get it away is actually free the memory from the app and restart it. If I then try to open a stream again it works as long as it is the same channel that I tried in the first place. It seems like the timeout is to short? I guess this can be changed.

The most interesting parts of this problem is:

- If I do the samething on a computer it workes flawless and all streams open in a few secs. 100% perfect!

- If I do get the stream to open on the iOS device it works perfect. Good quality, no freezing or buffering so there is no problem with the service it only seems to be a problem initializing metadata and open streams on the first try.

Thanks

Everything good in iPhone 6 here. Had a 5s until 2 weeks ago and that was great too

What are you using as live tv backend? I'm using serverwmc. Do you have channel icons loaded?

I'm just trying to think of setup differences. I'm on latest server dev build, though, the latest stable release performs the same in this regard.

I use NextPVR as backend. I have channel icons to load.

Latest Dev build also, but same as you - no difference on the latest stable release. It's been this way for the bast months, I pretty sure it never really worked.

Serverwmc and all channel icons loaded. All 189 channels list in the channels view, 100 in the grid view. I do have regular problems with the stream starting but I can see the first frame fine!

I too also have this issue with my iPad / iPhone and OS X running the latest GM of Yosemite - I can look at the guide, all the channels ect but as soon as I start a live stream sometimes I see the first frame and freeze other times I just get a black screen - when the first frame shows up I can refresh the browser window and hit play on the same channel again and 7/10 times the stream will start right up. It would seem to be some issue with the initial stream starting correctly.

I can confirm that using Smart Player for Media Browser for Windows Tablets and the new Android client works flawlessly to play back Live TV content so this does seem to be something in the web gui that is causing this issue.

I just installed ServerWMC, Media Browser and Live TV today. Streaming previously recorded tv works fine in iOS Safari. But, I have only gotten iOS Safari to stream live TV once out of about 15 tries. Streaming live TV using Firefox on a Win 7 computer works everytime.

When iOS Safari is unable to stream live TV hitting the X to close the video removes the video but leaves a black screen (it does not go back to the previous page) and leaves ffmpeg running. Trying again starts a new ffmpeg with the same results. When streaming previously recorded TV hitting the X goes to the previous page and stops ffmpeg as expected.

I have tried this on my iPhone 6 and iPad Mini both running iOS 8.0.2. I will try on one of my other iPhones running iOS 7 later this evening. I will also try iOS 8 again while on the same local network.

I primarily want to use Live TV to stream live to an iPhone/iPad to AirPlay to a TV. This would be perfect (if it worked).

I can get the live tv stream going on my iPhone 6 if I wait for the first frame to show up, hit play, then glitch data connection by either switching between cellular and Wi-Fi or by going in and out of airplane mode. Video player comes right up and stream rolls.

I also have had this same issue now for a long time, but I just know how to get it to work.  For me, if I switch temporarily to another app (or just hit the home button back to the Home screen), or even just switch to a different browser tab for a few seconds, then switch back to the MB3 Safari tab, then the stream starts up and plays normally.  It seems like it might just be a Safari glitch.  Happens on my iPad 2 and iPhone 4S

This trick worked on both my iPhone and iPad. Thanks. It would be great if there was something that could be changed in the server to resolve this. For now it would be nice to include a message on the page with the workaround for ios.

Any plans on solving these issues (without using tricks like reloading pages, going in/out of flightmode etc)? I guess that all iOS users experience the same thing and that there are a lot of us :) But, as I understand the the developers wasn't aware of this so the community (me included) has to become better at reporting problems.

Same thing happens for me on iOS 8.1. Overlocked's method works for getting live tv to work. Exit safari when you see the first frame then reload and it should start playing. *strange issue*

I am still looking into the live tv issues with safari.

since chrome on ios is really just safari in disguise, i would expect it to have the same problem.

Not really. Who ever experiences problems in streaming with iOS 8+ please try other browsers like Chrome or Terra.

iOS 8 basically broke the Live Streaming. Check this out:

http://www.dvbviewer.tv/forum/topic/53215-streaming-live-tv-and-ios-7/page-3

And the comment from the developer:

It is not a problem of the Recordingservice at all. The issue is caused by Apple and their behaviour with live streams. Technically the recordingservice has to record live streams before they are provided by the web interface. The situation is and will be you select a channel, the service is converting the content on the fly starting after you select the stream and after a short delay the web site provides the stream to the quicktime video object embedded on the frame. The stream is just fine, but the timeout by quicktime causes your issue. You can change this by manipulating the values in the html template, but this will work only till apple decides to change the behaviour again.

do you have any issue with just getting into the web client on safari ios8?.. trying to figure out that issue first, since livetv seems to be well confirmed at this point, but my issue is additional..

Well, I am doing my testing on an ios8 device and HLS is fine here (albeit except with live tv). I am only commenting on what I am seeing.
