MB Media Centre crashing (used to work perfect) still love this app!

First off, I absolutely love this app.  I pretty much bought my Roku just so I could stream from my MB server onto my TV with this app.  Having issues all of a sudden and I refuse to give up on it.  It's a quality app, so I know it must be something simple.

I have a Roku 3, with the latest firmware.  Running MB Server 3.0.5395.0 on a fast machine.  Running the latest version of MB Media Centre that you can get from the Roku store (Edit: App version 1.14).  All hardwired.

I can click on the app, see the splash screen, then about 1 second of "retrieving" then crash back to channel list.  It used to operate just fine.

The ONLY thing I can think of that I did different was, I decided to try and run my MBServer as a service, rather than the tray icon.  The first time I tried to run MB Centre after that it crashed, and has not worked since, regardless of running as service or icon.

MB Media Centre Light works perfectly fine.

I have tried everything.  Tray icon, service, remove and reinstall channel, reset Roku to factory settings, install light and upgrade from there, reboot everything, change/remove libraries....etc.

I will try and paste from my MBServer log.  How in the hell do you copy and paste from this server log??? Grrrr.  Screenshot here:  http://i.imgur.com/S3NNsYm.jpg

Any help appreciated, thanks guys :)

Hi thanks for the kind words..it seems this App is far more popular than I first thought  :)

The store version is really, really, really OLD. As you mentioned it is on version 1.14 where the latest version is actually 2.14

Please wait for it to get updated and report back if there still are issues.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply im85!  Great work.

In another thread, you mentioned the possibility of downloading the latest version if they IM'd you for a link?  Still possible? :D

When I tried to report an issue with Media Centre a few weeks ago I was told that the channel was no longer being supported and that the thread for Media Centre was deleted for that reason.  I have version 2.14.  It is every bit as buggy as the earlier versions.  Numerous videos that play fine in the official Roku app crash in Media Centre.  Metadata for musical artists that displays perfectly in the official app shows up with <,> type characters instead of proper formatting.  Media Centre is nice in terms of eye-candy but terrible in terms of stability.

You must be talking about the Roku forum??  There is still at least one thread over there that I found, but it's a bit older.

I had it working perfectly though :(  never once crashed, and would play everything I had clicked on so far.  Any chance you could help me get my hands on 2.14? :)

Edit:  Today I was able to get into the channel fine by removing my library links.  That allowed me to go in and change the theme and whatnot, but once I added my libraries back to my server it wouldn't open. I'm pretty convinced it's a metadata or theme issue.

Would it be possible to get that link?  I also like using your app over the standard one.  I purchased your app in the Roku store and loved the backgrounds when view movie info, but like you mentioned earlier the version in the store is rather outdated. In fact I was using Plex and only switched to Mediabrowser because of your app.

Hi All,

The app has finally been updated in the Roku store to version 2.15 (I had to remove couch potato integration to get it to pass their checks).

For all those sending me PMs etc, please update via the Roku store and report back if there are any problems.

Thanks

I know your focus is xbmc now but any chance of adding trakt integration to replace couch potato - basically identical functionality - just a request for the future should you decide to upgrade the feature set....

Sure, I'll keep it in mind as a possible replacement for couch potato in a future version.

Hi im85288, I was playing around with the updated client and noticed that when I go into the movie liberty I only see 100 movies.  If I select all movies it takes about 1 to 1 ½ minutes to show me all the movies. The same happens if I select the folder that the movies are in, takes about 1 ½ minutes to get the movies to display.  I have about 900 movies however the regular Roku client does not have this issue granted it will not do a grid view.  The grid view for me is one of the best features along with the full backgrounds when viewing the movie info.

I’m using several Roku 3 for the client and a i5 quad core with 16 gigs of memory for the server, is there anything I can do to speed up the client?   Also is there a way to set the clock to 12hrs instead of 24hrs?

Thanks

Hi msgonz, The grid view loads ALL of the movies before displaying them (that's probably why it take so long...) but then it caches that data so the next time you open it..it should be almost instant. There are places where lazy loading is included (i.e. where you see the 100 movies) and data is loaded as needed...but this is not possible with the grid view due to needing to know the number of items in advance. I'll have a think about other ways to improve this..but most likely it will remain a bottle neck.

As for the clock..it's not possible currently but I'll try and get it in for a future version as that's the second request now that I have seen for it.

Hi m85288, the lazy loading you mentioned, if I understand you would load 100 movies and once you movie passed the first 100 would load another 100 is that correct?

I thought that same would happen on the second load of the grid view as you mentioned however it takes the same amount of time each time I close and open the “all movie view”. I tried this on several Roku 3s just an FYI.

One last thing when selecting a movie I can't just press the play button to start the movie.  You have to press OK then it shows the cover art screen then press OK again then it shows the nice background with the movie info then select play to start then movie.  My question is can you just press play to start the movie or press OK button to see the background with info and by pass the cover art screen?  If I want to see the cover art maybe it should be an option on the background screen. My thought here is the main point to me is to ether play the movie directly or view the background screen. I like the cover art screen with the option of seeing similar movies but that’s not something I need every time I’m looking at a movie. It’s just too many clicks maybe there’s an option I’m missing?

Thank you, I really appreciate your help.

Hi, I may have to check the caching of the grid view as that was how I thought it worked. I have not really used the roku client for quite a while so a lot of this is from memory :)

I am sure there is an option to allow you to bypass the extra cover art screen...something like "hide fanart details" or something along those lines.

Thanks

im85288, two more issues came up. On a small amount of movies when you select them and press ok the client closes. I check each move and can't fine what the problem is. The standard mediabrowser client opens them without issue. The other issue is the user administrator shows as an option when starting the client.  Administrator is set to hide, the standard mediabrowser client doesn't show it.

I’m running Version 3.0.5413.14205 of the server.
