Helios 0
What I'm planning on doing is putting a Roku device at my parent's house to give them access to my server. As far as I know, this is possible to do, however, the connection is not secured. I know that HTTPS is not implemented yet, however, I was able to go around that by implementing stunnel (everything works correctly using the browser). Is there a way to use the HTTPS address in the Roku device and if not, is there a way to secure the communication between that external Roku and my server? Scott84Z28 39
You could create a VPN between your router and your parents router. If you setup the subnets and routing correctly, then the Roku would just connect to the Internal IP of your MBS.
nowhereman 0
Hello all, I use Emby server to my Rokus at two different houses. I am looking to secure my server but being new to the subject I am wondering this is possible from a Roku client at my second location. As there any reason why getting a domain and certificate would keep this from working? Sorry for the idiot question. Thanks nowhereman

I was wondering what the best solution this this situation is now with the progress in Emby server. This is a stupid question I know...sorry. Jdiesel 1112
Are you able to access your Ember Server from outside your local network? Best place to start would be here https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Connectivity Once you are able to connect from outside your local network all you need to do is point your Roku to your external IP manually or use Emby Connect. If you want to setup a https connection your will need to provide your own ssl certificate. There are a few guides on the forums on how to do this depending on your OS. nowhereman 0
Yes I have been using Rokus from outside the network but unsecured and I want to change that. I don't have to do anything on the router that serves the away address? Roku clients can do that from a separate location/network? Thanks Jdiesel
Jdiesel 1112
Yes, so all you need to do is provide Emby with you own ssl cert and directed the Rokus to connect over https rather than http. There are many ways to do this, free versus paid options, optional reverse proxies, domains, etc. A good start would be this guide https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/44757-setting-up-ssl-for-emby-wip/ Edited November 29, 2018 by Jdiesel
