Anyone Doing this or can it be done?

I am running MB Classic on a htpc in a home theater room.  Is there anyway to have mediabrowser 'trigger' my hue lights?  I would love to be able to click on a movie, and as my trailers start, have my lights dim and my strip lights come on.   So I guess I'm asking if mediabrowser can work with my hue app or if there is an alternative 'something' that can do what I am asking.

thanks

I used to do this in my dedicated room to control my Grafik Eye.  I used EventGhost and an IR blaster.  Until we come up with an integrated solution you might be able to make something like this work

I use a home automation controller called Vera that has many plugins (including Hue).  It can accept commands from HTTP.

On my MCE PC, I run VoxCommando, and while it has a great speech recognition component, it also has a great scripting/event engine that can use other inputs (like # keys on remote).

Since I never use the #s on the remote, I have VoxCommando essentially mapping the # key on the remote to fire off HTTP commands to my Vera controlling scenes.    I guess I could do it on each "play", but that might not work out as well as discreet control.

I made an app for @@lja which controlled the hue of his theatre room light when he pressed the play button on his remote. I use the MB API to tigger the lights when MB started to play a movie.

Unfortunatley, Mb development changed how event where being triggered and I haven't figured out how to implement them (all though they are supposed to be easier to implement now).

I am sure that @@lja would also be happy if I fixed the event Listener app and got it working again for him.

We were using EventGhost to trigger the lights with a Command line.

the app was written in VB>Net.

I offer the code to you if you understand it. It is pretty straight forward event if you don't read .Net.

It litterally takes about ten lines of code to make you lights dim, but I need the MbServer event handlers to be fixed.

I have my kinect turn off and on my TV with USB-Uirt and stuff, but nothing to amazing.

Please let me know how I can help.

This can be done with android.  There's an app called tasker and several other apps that work along with it.   It can be pretty tricky to set it up but it's well worth it.  The possibilities are endless.

Also check out youtube "tasker tuesday"  has several guides and videos.

I have 3 htpc's a server, 3 android phones, 2 android tablets (1 mounted in my truck tethered with the cell phone) and I can control everything but the oven, which I will be controlling that with some wifi adapters very soon.  It's also possible to control motorized blinds or curtains like this.  I set up an automatic text to send my phone when my wife crosses the RR tracks on her way home as an early warning and she doesn't even know her phone does it.

If you go that route its a long process.  In fact, I have been doing my house for a few years and just adding little by little.  If you have the funds the Lutron RA2 is a whole house solution but very expensive.
