So If i read the blog right we can cut out serverWMC for live TV but what about recording. Do we still have to have serverWMC  for that or is it all self contained now?

You'd still need it for recording. You could use serverWMC and some of the MB clients to watch recorded shows tho and never really need to open WMC if you so choose.

Hi, I have the beta server updated and all the ServerWMC components up to date.

How can I test this out to ensure it is working as designed?  Currently, i can stream Live TV to Chrome and Firefox.  I still see ServerWMC transcoding .TS files but i'm not sure if that's expected or not.

I have an HDHomerun Prime.

Kent, I believe that the update to the server makes it possible to utilize the DLNA feature of the HDHomerun to stream directly. Since the browsers aren't DLNA capable there is no benefit for playing live TV in them.

This will benefit every client, even though it won't always eliminate transcoding. previously the video path was tuner -> wmc conversion -> MBS

We've eliminated the wmc conversion by going straight to the tuner. This will pay major dividends because it reduces the number of parties touching the video along the way. Transcoding is still required for the browsers to convert it into a format that they can play, but the source that they're working with is now much cleaner than before.

OK makes a lot of sense.  Can you recommend which clients might be able to take advantage of this...just interested in playing my part in beta testing and reporting any problems i see.

I have Roku, MBC, MBT, IOS, andoird and WDTV clients i can test with.

All of them, although MBT still needs work on live tv obviously. Video quality is better in all of them, the stream starts faster, and is much less prone to failure.

Not to mention there's no more temporary WMC file growing and growing as you watch.

Sorry, I meant no benefit in being able to directly play. I should have been more clear.
