An app for the server on a qnap nas would be most welcome.      Anyone know if its possible, working on it or know if its on the cards?

Seconded, this would be incredible. Keep getting excited seeing the new linux versions, hoping this one is in the works or plan as well.

It becomes on the cards when someone decides to get proactive and investigate. That's how all of the Linux releases came about

Hello,

I'm using a QNap TS-870 converted to an TS-870 PRO with Intel I7 and it works well in Virtualization station.

Sorry for my English.

That's good to hear.

And there's nothing wrong with your English  :)

I agree, they should develop a QNAP version... I've been waiting to try this but will only do so if its installable on my NAS.

Who are they? I'm presuming you've gone to the QNAP Forums and asked if there's a dev out there willing to help?  ;)

"they"  are the developers of media browser.  "they" should develop and support as many platforms and clients as possible. just as plex does. this is one of the reasons plex is so popular today.  there is no doubt as of media browser 3 that "they" are trying to emulate the plex system/platform (server/client).  but as a user/consumer I could care less who develops the server/client software. at the very least they should attempt to get developers interested in developing for mediabrowser 3

this of coarse is just my opinion.

There is a thread posted by the title "Media Browser For NAS"

Luke posted on 02 June 2014:

Yes we're planning on it.

I changed the hardware on my htpc and the for the life of me I could never get Playready to update and at this point I am tired. I am going to reinstall windows from and I must say it sucks. I'll be out of MB until it is available for my nas. I knew installing any server on my workstation was a bad idea.

I know the limitations of the MB dev team regarding Linux versions but many of us have waited now over a year for the MB server to be installed on a Linux box. I myself have the hardware running UnRaid and Phaze has developed a Plug-In but no stable MB version to install. So yes many of us are patiently waiting until our Linux boxes have something to install that resembles Plex.

It seems like a waste of time when you can run a Linux VM on the NAS and host media browser in it.

Or a Windows VM.

But, I don't think all Qnaps can run VMs.

My aim would still be to have a version for qnap. Mediabrowser just works. I Have parents and relatives using it with ease.

Adding layers of vm and other things inbetween adds potential for complication and failure points. I might try it as an experiment but would prefer to continue using the wonderfully simple and easy to use mb on its own if i can.

Some of my relatives who use mb are over 80. Any loss of service or complication for them would be too frustrating and might turn them off of using it.

For some news related to this - the next server release will remove the libgdiplus dependency which is going to make it a lot easier to install on devices such as this. It was the last remaining hurdle for Synology as well.

that's good news... does that mean there will be a .qpkg released sometime soon? or is it still a long way off?

thank you

We haven't looked at that. Right now most of our linux packages are maintained by community contributors. If someone can help us with that it would be fantastic and help get it done sooner rather than later.

+1 on this! I am currently trying to decide between a Synology, QNAP, or other type of NAS. Any suggestions on which device MB would run best on? I have been an avid MB fan since 2009, and I love your product!

If you go FreeNAS, you will have immediate support. Synology and QNAP probably aren't going to get going until a community member steps up to take care of packaging.
