Media Browser Connect

Will this feature come to MBC? I have a cousin who connects to my server with MBC.

I'm not sure yet.  My concern is performance because MBC still has the same basic architecture of MB 2.x which was not designed for the situation where the data is across a remote connection.  Some people have performance issues with some aspects of MBC even on their local LAN.

So, to help us decide, I would appreciate it if you could provide as much information about how well or not well you find MBC working in a remote scenario.  Please tell us things like:

What is the upstream bandwidth at the server end

What is the downstream bandwidth at the remote end

What is the size of your library (in items not bytes)

What types of items do you have (movies, tv, music...)

Do you use any of the comprised views like by genre or index by actor etc.

Thanks.

On my cousins machine, he has an older core 2 duo running MBC. Streaming movies and music are running just fine. The only performance issues that are experienced is when MBC hangs when scrolling past Music. The same happens on my machine on my network and it's a much better PC. The only thing that I and he want to get running is the emulators. I have the gamebrowser plugin installed and trying to play a game and it starts trying to play the game like a movie (with the time bar). I tried on my network before giving the PC to my cousin and the games loaded up just fine. I have included his log.

Upstream bandwidth is: 1.81 Mbps

Downstream bandwidth is: 10.72 Mbps

Library size:

Movies: 2600

Music: 19,000 Songs

TV: 15,000 Episodes

The comprised views are there to use but haven't used them

Thanks,

S.

ok that's good that the music issue isn't connect related.

emulators are tricky because the client machine will probably have to download the game first so that it can be fed into emulator. so i am guessing supporting connect with MBC will start with game playback unavailable and then build on it as time goes on.

Not to hijack this thread, but mb connect isn't working for me. When using app.mediabrowser.tv and logging in I have my server show up, but it doesn't go into it. I get the spinning progress circle and then nothing when clicking on it.

I am having the exact same issue. I have tried 2 android devices and windows 7 web client and I'm unable to access MB Connect outside my home network at all. I get the spinning circle, then nothing. I even tried to manually enter the server IP address and it gave me the 'Server Unreachable' message. However, when I go ahead and Wi-Fi up to my home network, I have no problems accessing my server at all. My daughter, also, has a Sharp Smart TV and she is also seeing the server just fine but when she clicks on it, she get's the revolving circle, then nothing. Any assistance in troubleshooting this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Connect tries to make this as easy as possible but, if you cannot get to your server from outside your network, it won't work.  You have to be sure you have external access working by confirming the configuration on your router and firewall(s).
