Special Watched Status is Affecting Series 'Next Up' presence

Version 3.0.5434.27057 (although not peculiar to this version)

I have a series 'toast of london' that would never show up on next up despite watching episode after episode of series 00 then 01..

I have Season 00, 01, 02.

turns out that if i set the watched status of the single special episode S00E01 to unwatched, then the next episode in season 01 would appear on next up.

With S00E01 set to watched, no episode from season 1 would ever appear on next up

With S00E01 set to unwatched, any of the episodes after the last watched from season 1 would show up.

ie the issues is 100% re-reproducible, as i flag s00E01 watched/unwatched and test.

The only thing i can forsee as being unusual about S00E01 is that TVDB has it marked to air before S01E01. indeed S00E01 shows up under season 1 in the webclient (maybe thats expected now?)

tested from web client.

any ideas?

the other strange thing...having deleted all the XML from the media collection folders for this series, no amount of scans will fetch the xml back...although mb has no trouble knowing what it is. (under details of the show the tvdb metadata/links are all there)

completing removing then readding the show seems to get the show and season (but not episode) xml back again...

turns out the logs report a problem, even though there is nothing wrong with the tvdb get, and the show is indeed found

even after a complete show removal, rescan, show re-add to library and rescan..the watched status of s00E01 still controls whether the show shows on next up.

I watched s01e01 of 'garth merenghi's darkplace'...s00e01 now appears on next up...should be s01e02.

(S00e01 is listed as showing after season 1 - so even if next up is using special episode timing info - its not using it properly).

Going with the flow..just to see how mb3 next up pans out...

Watched - next up

S00e01 - s01e02

S01e02 - s1e03

S01e03 - s1e04

S1e04 - s1e05

S1e05-s1e06

S1e06 (last episode of last season) - s00e02

S00e02-s00e03

(all the way to end of s00 as expected)

All specials are marked as 'after season 1'. But for some reason s00e01 snuck in after s01e01. Perhaps related to the original issue.

with a separate show of 3 seasons, with 1 special set to air after season 2,

if i start with a blank slate, all episodes and specials unwatched...

watch S01E01, ....S00E01 added to next up (should be S01E02)

force the issue, ignore next up and watch S01E02.....S01E03 added to next up (as it should)

watch remainder of season 1 and 2....S00E01 on next up (as it should be as its set to air after season 2)

watch s00E01..S03E01 on next up (as it should be)

so it seems that the only precarious time for proper next up functionality for this show is after watching S01E01....for all other episodes watched..next up is calculated correctly.

incidently if  i start again from scratch (mark whole show unwatched)

following next up as it currently functions...

i get

S01E01..S00E01..S01E02....and then on as expected...

so after S01E02......MB3 knows S00E01 comes after season 2...but MB3 Also thinks S00E01 comes after S01E01 which it doesnt..as shown my its metadata...

  <EpisodeName>A Khan Christmas</EpisodeName>
  <EpisodeNumber>1</EpisodeNumber>
  <airsafter_season>2</airsafter_season>
  <SeasonNumber>0</SeasonNumber>
