migrating to MB3

Currently running MB 2.6 on 6 or so HTPCs with all my movies stored on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 64-Bit server share.  I'd like to start moving to MB3 but don't want to upgrade everything at once if I can avoid it.

Is there any reason I can't install MB3 Server on my server and install MB Classic on one of my HTPCs to get familiar with it, without affecting my other MB 2.6 machines?  I'm assuming all my media can stay where it is.  Anything I need to know in advance?

Also, am I correct that MB Theater would work as a standalone app and not with WMC?  How is live TV working at the moment?  Is it feasible to replace WMC with MB3 entirely?  I currently use a HDHomeRun Prime with Cable Cards.

Thanks!

For live TV stick with WMC for now with MBC for MB3

As for testing out MBS, you can run MBS side by side with MB2. MBS also has its own webclient so you can just check things out via web browser

You can do exactly what you want. Install MB3 server on the server. I believe the default is to only read metadata from the local disk, you can configure the server to handle the metadata however suits your needs.

The only stipulation to all of this is that you can't have MB2 and MBC on the same client. You can uninstall MB2 and leave all it's data on the disk so that it's there if you choose to go back for whatever reason.

Thanks!  I have a new HTPC on the bench that's not in use yet, so I think I'll try it out there to get comfortable with it.  I'm pumped to get going!

My other goal is to try and improve the Netflix experience, as the app in WMC is pretty limited right now (no search, multiple season playback is a bear).  I see there's a launcher for the Netflix metro app for MediaBrowser Theater - is there none for Classic?

Thanks

One more question - can I expect MB3 Server/Classic to be as stable/reliable as my current MB 2.6.2 setup?

Thanks

In a word: yes.
