Wrong Date in Metadata

about a month ago i built a new HTPC, and as such installed MB server and MB classic, and did everything from scratch. as such, i expected there to be issues with the 'recently added' lists, as everything would be considered recently added.

but after a few weeks i realized there was more to it than that. my metadata hadn't been changed for everything, since i reused the HDD's, most of my metadata was maintained. but a BUNCH of it was changed, and changed to a date added of dec 22, 2014, aka, the future...

so even as i was adding more media, it wasn't replacing these shows/movies because they still had a new date, a future date. all the new stuff is being added correctly, and the metadata is fine.

i started manually changing things, as it looks like only a dozen or two movies with the incorrect date. i started doing the same for tv shows as it looked like a similarly small number. but now i'm realizing that's not the case at all. i don't know how many have the wrong date, but it's at least 100 more titles.

so question #1, is there any kind of utility i can use to change the date automatically? i don't feel like spending 3hrs changing dates. so far about 90% of the 'wrong' dates have been dec 22, 2014, so if there's anyway to replace one date with another, that's good enough for me. so far all my searching has pointed me towards changing metadata on photos.

question #2, what likely went wrong to cause this? this is a major pita, and i'd definitely like to avoid this from happening again. even if i can't figure out #1, at least i only have another month to wait before it'll start to work itself out, as long as i don't do it again!

thanks

EDIT: i just found a way to sort titles by date in the reports tab on the server configurator. i have about 500 titles with the dec 22, 2014 added date, and more than 2300 others with 'future' dates from tomorrow up to dec 21. DEFINITELY too many to update manually.

For your metadata settings, are you going with the date of the file being created or the date when the file was scanned into the library? flipping that switch and doing a refresh "might" do the trick, unless the files themselves report as being added 22-12-2014 in windows, in that case there are loads of applications for mass changing the "created/last edited" date of files.

i've got it set to read the date the file was scanned/added. the dates are being read correctly from the metadata, the problem is that the metadata was written with the wrong date. i thought about changing it to the created date, but it seems like that info is missing from most of the files with the incorrect scanned date.

i was using MCM to grab all my metadata, and those files still seem to be correct, but MB3 doesn't want to read them. i'm ok with that, the fetchers in MB3 seem good enough, it's just that i have almost 3000 metadata files with the incorrect date right now.

can you provide any more info on these applications? i searched last night, and all i could find was stuff for photos. perhaps is the fact there are so many that is causing the issue. i'm having trouble finding what i need through all the similar programs.

thanks for the help

Hopefully i understood correctly now :)

You wanted help finding a problem that can change the attribute: "modified" "created" or similar?

if yes than this : http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/bulk_file_changer.html Is something i have used in the past, can't tell you if it will work for you or if it contains anything malicious etc etc (don't want to crash someones system)

But i can tell you it worked for me :)

thanks for the suggestion, but didn't work. there is no option to change the 'date added' with that program. only 'created', 'modified', and 'accessed'. none of which solve my problem.

guess i'm better off just deleted these NFO files and letting MB refind them. the date added will all be today, but at least that'll work itself out faster than the date being a month in the future

I'm having the same issue, however, not in all categories. it doesn't seem happen in Movies, but it does in TV, and Home Movies and clips.

It' varies in dates anywhere from Days to years.. :(

I'v tried all the suggestions, however nothing seems to work. It seems to have gotten worse with the recent version updates.

Maybe a bug? This used to work just fine :) Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks.

You are probably not having the same issue. Please open a new topic and describe your problem in precise detail with specific examples. This thread is about a bug from two versions ago which would give new content the wrong date added. The issue is resolved, however there is no cleanup for the items that were affected, so at this point, they're discussing ways to bulk update their metadata.

 it's resolved?

i actually just came back in here to say that for some reason 16 movies that i've had in my collection for years, and had correct dates before, are now showing up as being added yesterday. i have not done anything that would explain why this happened, whatever caused it will likely happen again 'in the background' unless i figure out what it is and prevent it.

can you tell me which version had the bug, and what the bug was specifically. it's annoying if there's a one time issue, but quite frankly i'm going to stop using MB completely if this continues. it's been great for years, but not having my most recent media come up where it's supposed to is just unacceptable.

so if this was a bug that's been fixed, that's good news, but i'd like to know what version the bug was in so i can confirm that's what is happening. thanks

EDIT: well, seems the new issue is a new issue. it's added files that are not video to my library. no idea why this started happening now, and not before, but it's now added .rar files as media...which of course it can't play anyway
