3D Naming

Hi, i just added some 3D files to my library for the first time and i don't quite understand what i need to do with naming. i ideally want to name them in a way that means MB will detect the fact that its 3D and what format it is. if i have a 2D version i don't want it to appear twice in the library, but if there's only one version i want to see the 3D cover art. i've got some movies and some episodes.

so far i've had trouble with the tv episodes. i tried to tag the episode with [htab] so it reads Series S01E01 [htab].mkv. I put them in the same series and season folder as the 2D episodes but MB didn't like that. didn't complete the scan and said something about illegal characters. i looked at the log, it stopped at the new episodes so i removed them and it ran fine.

with the movies i can;t seem to get them to only show up once. i name the movie Movies (2013) [hsbs].mkv and put them in the same folder as the 2D version. i'm not sure how to use the 3D tags is the problem. MB doesn't seem to detect the format and the coverart isn't applied.

What am i doing wrong? cheers

[htab] is a valid MB3 naming standard.

I have 3D movies tagged with [hsbs] mixed in with the same 2D version and MB3 detects them OK.

The naming of my movies is:

Movie (year) [hsbs].mkv

Perhaps if you scan the library again and supply the log, @@Luke can take a look.

ok, the illegal characters in path thing turned out to be some xmls that got corrupted in a completely different part of the library.

but the [htab] and [hsbs] tags are still doing nothing for me. the two versions get grouped by the auto boxset plugin but the 3d movies dont get recognised as such

log attached. my library is one folder with two movies in, both avatar, one with the [hsbs] tag as you suggest. they both appear seperately

@@Spaceboy - what do you mean by "the 3d movies dont get recognised as such"?

Does MB3 not give them a 3D tag in the Dashboard?

Also, what do you mean by "my library is one folder with two movies in, both avatar, one with the [hsbs] tag as you suggest. they both appear seperately"?

What are you expecting to see?

hi @@CBers , cheers for the help. this is just my test system. the library is as below:

\test\Avatar (2009)\Avatar (2009).mkv

\test\Avatar (2009)\Avatar (2009) [hsbs].mkv

its configured as a movie type.

they both get detected as exactly the same movie but both appear separately in the library and as newly added movies etc:

i only expect to see one entry above and then the 3d version shown within the Avatar entry as it would be if it were a movie with separate parts or discs. maybe i'm wrong?

if i look in the metadata editor for the one with the [hsbs] tag i expected to see the 3d format set as HSBS but its not.

No, you will see both copies.

One should have the 3D tag if you go into the details.

I don't believe many of the clients recognise 3D movies.

3D discovery needs enhancing, but there are bigger fish to fry :)

ok, i see what to expect now. but its not showing the 3d tag unless i manually set this through the metadata editor, then i can see it. not a problem if this is what is necessary, just i assumed mb3 would detect the [hsbs] tag and set it for me. or should this be working?

It should be working, but I have checked mine and it doesn't show in the details, just in the tags.

yes there's an issue in the release server. we'll fix it with the next release. for now just name your files correctly but you'lll have to then use the web interface to mark as 3d

edited - just went ahead and created a different topic since I wasn't really concerned about "naming" 3D files, but rather 'identifying' them with MediaInfo
