I apologies if this has already been covered else where on the forum but I've had no luck finding anything. I have set up a guest account for a friend and sent the invite. He can log in and see the server, but after he clicks it, it brings up loading mouse icon and after a few seconds of that it stops and nothing happens. Not sure where I'm going wrong. Please point me in the right direction. I am kinda confused here.

We need to add an error message but the issue is its not able to connect. Have you connected away from home before? You might have to check your firewall settings

Give him the external URL that shows up in your server dashboard. If he can't access it then you'll have to get that squared away first

Well I have the same identical problem as the OP....

I click on the IP:8096/mediabrowser link and it does the same thing.   I do a network check and it says the IP is online but does not respond.

I have tried to cover everything about your Port forwarding and nothing works.  One big problem is most of the tutorials are on past systems that no longer exist, and info is not longer pertinent

I have checked firewalls, an allowed programs through, I have spent 2 days working on this.

What is it that the program needs??

you might try looking at this guide based on  your router model:

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/

Yes, yes been through all of that  I have tried every which way I can think of to get it through.  I have scoured these forums in search of information.l

One tutorial talks about a setting up a second port, but then another tutorial says it isn't needed.  I have ported many a program, and dealt with many a firewall.  I even shut the firewall entirely off.  I have re-installed the server a couple of times.

What I don't know, is on the server you have 2 areas for port numbers, one local and one public, do I make both those the same? Do I make one 8096 and the other 8945>? Put whatever I want?

I have tried many variations, thus far, and nothing seems to work.  I just don't know what it is looking for?  Not sure where to turn.

I tried the beta version and that was a total disaster.

Is there somewhere we can go to get a prior version?

that's for you to decide. the local port is the port on your computer. the public port is the router port. the public port needs to forward to the local one.

PROBLEM SOLVED

Well, after much ado... I hope this helps the OP

For me, the problem stemmed/stems from our phone.  It is an Ooma phone (somewhat like Vonage), and it is because the box is located between the modem and router

Modem>  Ooma  >  Router

Typically you could attach your Ooma to the router, assign it an IP if you like and it doesn't interfere with normal router functions (like port forwarding).  While I can swap out the box and set it up that way, in working with Ooma, the phone system is far more reliable if it is attached directly after the modem.

Now, the Ooma box does have menu (like a router) and allows you set up port forwarding, unfortunately as of this posting, I haven't fully accomplished that yet.  But, I am sure I will

Thank you for bearing with my frustrations and stupidity.  You will be happy to learn I no longer have any hair left to pull out :)

This ended up being because my router keep changing the IPv4 settings and for some reason after changing the settings from dynamic to static it worked. Thanks for the help.
