NicCo 1
Hi, I'm searching a library manager and I've found Media Browser. But I have some questions : - Is Media Browser Classic and/or Media Browser for WMC support MKV ? - Is MBC or MB for WMC support 3D half SBS ? And does it switch 3D TV auto ? - Is MBC or MB for WMC support SUP subtitles inside a MKV ? Thanks !
Maleficarum 68
Hi NicCo, As far as I'm aware mkv is supported on most platforms and the server will transcode (convert to a format the client can use) on the fly where needed. There is support for half side by side 3d, the file would need to be named according to format posted here for mediabrowser to correctly identify it as 3d content though, I don't know if auto-switching is supported. I know mediabrowser supports subtitles but I'm not sure of the formats or support for having them in mkv or other files, it does support external subtitles though, which is what I use (in srt format.) Deihmos 147
With WMC you need to install Lav filters and subtitles work. I don't know much about 3D tv but I know it will playback but how will it switch your TV to 3D mode?
CashMoney 94
3D TV's I've used don't switch automatically (lg, Samsung) anyway regardless of source (app or blu ray player) ... Or am I missing out on something?
Maleficarum 68
A friend of mine has a tv that does it if it detects the source as 3d so it can be done.
NicCo 1
Original internal Samsung player can read 3D flag into a MKV and switch auto my TV. But I don't know if it's possible to do with HDMI... Maleficarum, could you ask to your friend what does he use and how (player, OS, TV, link...) ? Thanks ! byngo 6
On the 3D issue, I have a Samsung tv and it recognises if the bluray player sends a 3D signal. You must have HDMI 1.4 capable equipment. On a pc the hdmi output must be 1.4 and the graphics capable of 3D. However my htpc does satisfy those requirements but when I use power dvd to play a 3D bluray there is no auto detection and it plays in 2D. I have to switch pdvd manually to 3D, then the tv asks me to put my glasses on. I think this is not a hardware issue but lies with pdvd. I would be surprised to find anything but a standalone bluray player will switch the tv to stereoscopic 3D mode. As for side by side 3D I always have to press the 3D button on the TV even with a SBS 3D move burnt to an AVCHD disk in my bluray player.
ronvp 92
To play 3D movie from Media Browser Classic, you have 2 choices: 1 - Just play it back with the build-in player and you will have to manually press your TV button to display the 3D. This only works with 3D movies that are Side by side or Top and Bottom. If you have a movie that is "Frame Packed" or (basically 2 video streams in a single file, kinda like it is stored on the Blu-ray disc), all you get is 2D playback. on this Frame Packing; Some people think this last one is working correctly because they press the 3D button on the TV and it will go to 3D, but it is only the TV up-converting the signal to 3D and they do not realize it is not the real 3D recorded signal. Frame Packed video streams always require a external player. 2 - Playback with a external player (such as PowerDVD or TMT) that is capable to playback 3D movies. A good external player will handle pretty much all 3D formats (including Frame packed) and will send the correct format to your TV, so it knows it is 3D. The downside of method 1 is that if you like to see the movie in 2D, you cannot. This is because it will show 2 frames side by side or on top of each other. The 2nd method, allows you to watch the same movie stream either in 3D or 2D just by pressing the button on your TV. There are some other ways to watch you 3D movies a - Using the DLNA Play-to function from a other client. i.e; say you have a windows tablet or phone and have the Mediabrower app running on that Tablet or Phone, you can browse your movies on the Tablet or Phone find the one you like and then use the Play-to function to play it on your TV. This way, the movie stream goes directly to your TV and it will(should) recognize the side-by-side or over-under layout and switch to 3D automatically. b - Use your Samsung DLNA capability and browse to the 3D movie from the TV and play the 3D movie. From Samsung TV, you just press the source button and select the MediaBrowser server as a source. and follow the menus/folders to select your movie and hit play There are a few other methods but the above are the most used to playback 3D FYI, because it is all so interchangeable, I actually use all of the above methods, depending on what room I am in and what TV I am using. For my main TV, I use media center exclusively (including my cable TV) and have MBC to use TMT for my 3D movies. On External players: TMT has been discontinued, but in my opinion still the best integrated with Media Center. PowerDVD also has a Media Center integration. There are some other external players that can do it also.. On the sub titles, LAV Filters does not have a internal subtitle renderer, you will have to install XY-VSfilter or use TMT or PowerDVD which do have their own subtitle renderer. NicCo 1
Many thanks for your response. TMT and PowerDVD are Bluray players, so what about Cinavia with MKV files ? I have no doubt with Bluray disc but I don't know with MKV. Thanks !
