trailers channel problem in WMC - parental control filtering

Hmmm... @@Luke, I think I'm using the standard API call to get recent items from a channel.  I don't recall if it has a userId parameter.

I noticed that in general, the trailers plugin filters according to parental control settings but there is one place where the trailers are completely unfiltered. I'm not sure what this place is called and I'm not sure if this is true in all themes, but at least in the chocolate theme you get quick access to content on the main screen for whatever category is selected. So when I move over to trailers and then move up to the quick access area above, the list of trailers displayed there is unfiltered.

I had to disable trailers for my kids because of this. Hoping this can be fixed soon so I can re-enable it. If more info is needed, just let me know.

MBC is providing the UserId in the latest channel items call.

ShanMan - are you sure the items in the recent list you were seeing actually had ratings in their metadata?  Many trailers are for movies that are not yet rated.  If you are sure, then there may be a hole in either the API or the trailers channel.

Yea they probably just don't have ratings.

There is a new addition to the release server that might help here, although it does require manual tagging. you can restrict items via tags.

That would never be practical for something like trailers but the existing setting for blocking content with no ratings should do the trick.

I use the existing setting for blocking content with no ratings. To reiterate, if I browse into the channel I don't see any of the "bad" trailers listed because of my parental control settings. I only see them in the recent items area.

I realize that this setting eliminates a ton of "good" trailers but there is still enough that I would like to enable trailers for the kids.

Okay, due to another issue, I can't test this myself right now but that sounds like there is a parental control hole in either the API or the trailers channel.  I confirmed that MBC is sending the userID on the call.

I reproduced this and there are a couple of issues.

One, I was seeing no rating restrictions in either the recent list nor the main channel areas but this was due to the fact that, even though "Trailers" is still a type that can be selected in the block unrated section, these are no longer Trailers as far as the system is concerned. They are "Internet Channel Content".

Once I fixed that, I do see the same thing as ShanMan.  The main content areas filter properly but the recent item API is not honoring the "block with no rating info" setting.  As you can see here, there are 28 items in the recent list and they pretty much all have no rating information.

The sum total of items that pass the rating check when you enter directly is only 19.

So @@Luke - there is definitely a problem here with the recent items api for channels (or at least the trailers channel) and parental control.

I can reproduce with the web client as well.  As you can see, "A most violent year" has no rating information but it is listed here (along with others).

Any word on this, Luke? Not sure if the lack of response means Luke hasn't seen this topic, or just that there is no news yet in terms of a fix.
