Vicpa 553
Hi For those using MCEbuddy (great program for converting, renaming, striping commercials out of wtv files). With the great new support for direct play mp4 ac3 files in the app. I wanted to tweak MCEBuddy to convert to mp4s with ac3. This is not an included profile in the 2.4 builds. MCEbuddy lets you add custom profiles to the app, So I created one for mp4 ac3. Not wanting to do anything stupid (been known to do that). I verified with the MCEBuddy folks my approach and profile. Awesome response turnaround on their forum btw, They seem like nice folks. Anyway here is the response "Yes that's the right way to do it. Nothing wrong with it at all and yes in a new build it'll be overwritten so you could either update the new builds or create a custom profiles.conf and save it somewhere (e.g. c:\custommce) and point to it in the system settings page (note but you won't get to see the newer profiles as it'll always refer to your custom file)" Here is the profile Custom Profile.txt You need to paste that into the profiles.conf file located at C:\Program Files\MCEBuddy2x\config\ by default, Note the caveat in the quote, new builds will overwrite the custom profile. Just select the profile MP4 AC3 in your conversion task. You can change the name for the profile is so desired. This has worked fine for me, your mileage may vary. Please test and verify on your own, I am no expert in this just wanted to pass it along. Don't know how many MCEBuddy users out there maybe if we have enough we can ask them to include support in a standard profile.

ThePaladinTech 22
Curious if this is now better than what I have been doing, which is creating an MKV with both an aac 5.1 and ac3 stereo, my understanding was that AC3 Stereo is more compatable with everything, and I still have a 5.1 track as well. And while I am asking questions I've got my width set to 720 inside of MCE Buddy... Are my settings passe? I have been using them for a few years. Thanks for any thoughts
Vicpa 553
Hi, I can't comment on the passé part, sometimes if it ain't broke don't fix it works I think it really depends on the clients you are using. My OP was pre Win 10 and wtv focused. With native support for mkv's in win10 the container is less important (mkv vs mp4). As far as the audio again Windows (7+) I believe will handle multi-channel AC3 just fine regardless of the actual output of your connection (speakers receiver etc.) I am sure I will be corrected if wrong. I use these general MCEBuddy settings. With the latest MCEBuddy contrib build 2.4.3. This is the latest custom profile addition. (add to the base MCEBuddy profile.config see caveats above) profil.txt This will give AC3 stereo or 5.1 depending on the source. The recent contrib builds support the naming conventions for the SD Homerun DVR beta as well and I have no problems with MPG's in addition to .wtv. Hope this helps -Vicpa
ThePaladinTech 22
Thanks for the info! Well in case anyone is interested here is my MKV 5.1 and Stereo Profile 51andStereo.txt Edited September 26, 2015 by ThePaladinTech
flipdee 0
Very nice work on all of the custom profiles I must say. Can I just check with you , ThePaladinTech, is your profile designed to provide 2 audio streams, 1x stereo and 1x 5.1 multichannel, regardless of the input files audio streams? I assume a file with 1x 5.1 stream can be downmixed to stereo, I had tried the profile with a mkv, but ended up with a file with 2x stereo streams, one ac and one ac3? Cheers, flipdee
ThePaladinTech 22
Yes, I beleive it must have a multichannel audio stream to work with, you also need the multichannel audio box ticked per vicpa's screen shot.
