Android App Bugs List

Well done for fixing the server connection problems, but I have quickly discovered a few bugs to let you know of.

  1. The volume control does not work correctly when playing video on the device, it just seems to adjust the video player's volume rather that the device volume, however it does work correctly when playing music.
  2. The now playing bar for music disappears when navigating through the library.
  3. You have a problem with you application's use of the Android back button. It should ask if you want to exit the application when pressing the back button on the main screen, but instead it just keeps scrolling back through every application navigation that has been made!
  4. LAN server connections appear to be working, but remote connections do not work even when using connect. It also will not allow me to enter the address manually. I have checked that the server is available via the web app.

The only android device that I have tried the app on so far is a Moto G, which is stock and running 4.4.4.

Please say if logs are required for any of these issues.

Edit; log from just now trying to connect

In response.

  1. I've stopped listening for the volume change in the video player. It'll default to the volume stream the device wants to adjust now.
  2. It's a bug, I'll resolve it. Seems to only be internal music playback that's affected.
  3. I disagree. I've changed the menu behavior so that pressing home clears the history, but if you click the other options they are going on the navigation stack just like any other Android app. Pressing back goes to the item that was last added to the stack. As for the "Are you sure" dialog. If enough people want it I'll add it. Plex Android used to have it and last I checked they took it out. Probably because people didn't like it.
  4. We'll look into the connection issue. As for entering the address manually. You can click the change server dialog and enter the new address. If it connects it will update the info for the server that's already in the list.

Thanks for the reply.

  1. Are you saying it's down to the device? I don't understand exactly what you mean. All I can say is that whatever you've done makes it an unusable video player because the device's volume must be controllable from the player.
  2. Thanks.
  3. Up to you, but all the best media apps close on a back button press from the main screen. Netflix, iPlayer etc. BubbleUPNP has an exit option in the menu but I know if I haven't selected it as it still resides in the taskbar. Your app has no way of telling me that I've actually closed it or not.
  4. Apologies, the box appears as if it's populated and un-editable but I see now that it can be written in.

Cheers

1) I'm saying i've fixed it for next release. I used the technical terms for how Android handles audio because based on your first post I assumed you knew what you were talking about. My mistake.

3) As I said above, I've changed it so that if you press home it clears the navigation stack. So moving forward there should no longer be a situation where it doesn't exit from the homescreen. That being said, if the user keeps clicking the various folders in the navigation drawer they will be able to create quite a large navigation history.

4) You did mention that, but then provided a log that did not indicate you tried to manually enter an address. Without context "It also will not allow me to enter the address manually." doesn't mean anything. How am I supposed to know what you did or didn't try. I have no choice but to base suggestions on what the log indicates actually happened.

1. What I didn't understand is that your casual description of having stopped doing something refers to an impending fix. I can only apologise for not being up to date with your completed job list! The technical terms are fine, thank you.

3. After pressing the MB home option (where you're now saying the stack should be clear?), a back button press takes me back to where I just came from in MB. Is this another completed job that I didn't know about? :-D

4. See my edit in the previous post. It's connected fine with the manually entered address.

I realise that it's difficult sometimes reading what you might think is criticism of your work, but being a bit grumpy with people that have paid for your app won't get you anywhere. For the first six days after I bought this app it was unusable so I could just of easily hit the refund button and left a stinking review on the play store. I don't have to use my own time to help you find and fix the bugs.

I noticed that there was an update to the app today and I'm now getting Android reporting that the app is not responding. It's been quite random so I can't pin down a specific scenario. This log file should help.

Ignore the connection errors, it's because I have shut down one of my test servers.

According to the log, the app ran out of memory. Those transformers don't give apps a lot of memory to play with (48MB per app). I'll have to keep an eye out for ways to lower the apps memory usage.

I just noticed that issue 3 is only present on the TF101 (4.0.3). On my MotoG (4.4.4) phone it works as it should.

Also, I see that issue 1 is fixed. Good work, that was fast!
