Optimal settings for internal player and graphics driver (HD300/i5)

I have just reinstalled win7x64 and the new version of MBT. I can get it close to no stutter with the internal player, but have failed to eliminate it entirely. I wonder If anyone has had succes with a similar hardware (Intel HD3000/I5), and if so, what settings they are using. Alternatively which of the new settings I should try a play around with to get stutterfree playback. Some has already been mentioned here, but both the Intel graphics driver (not very user-friendly) and MBT has been updated since:

Take a look at this thread and see if using madvr fixes your issue.  It did for me.

Thank you, but madVR does not solve this issue. It appears to be mainly in h264 encoded material. A full BR movie plays fine.

So far I am looking at replacing the mini with a newer version with a Intel HD5000 gpu.

Im not familiar with your hardware or drivers but I've learnt overtime to leave any clever processing tricks the graphics driver says it can do set to off. Any video processing options like "enforce smooth playback", de-interlacing, brighter whites etc should be off.

The only setting I want to get right from the video driver are desktop resolutions and making sure that it does not use overscan with any I might want to switch to.

As I played around with it some more and did more googling, I discovered on intel forums that it could be due to issues with the refresh rate of the output and the movie combined.

Enabling "Change Refresh Rate to Match Video" appears to have solved the issue and now it plays with EVR and EVR+ with these settings: QuickSync/HDMI/Default/40Mbps/Edge. EVR Setting: Touch Inside.

A slight problem thou. When I set the render to madVR it comes up with a MadHcCtrl.exe error: "The Program can't start because unrar.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem"

I have dl the madVR package and copied it to folder Program Files/madvr/ and Program Files (x86)/madvr/ with no luck. Any suggestions?

I cant check right now where I extracted my MAdvr zip folder to but Probably to the x86 program files folder but you definitely should not have it twice in your directories. I don't think it matters on an x64 system where you put it but x86 directory is a safe bet. (make sure to extract the zip file)

Also did you run the install.bat with admin rights? (logged in as administrator). Maybe this was the omission the first time you extracted and ran it?

There is an uninstall.bat in the installation folder. I would use that (again with admin rights) to try to remove MAdvr. Maybe you will have to manually delete the other one, not sure.

I removed madVR and MBT and then reinstalled MBT and now madVR runs fine. Stange.

Did you reinstall madvr? If not, I don't think you are actually using madvr even if you have it selected in MBT. One way to tell is to play a movie and see if the little madvr icon appears in the system tray.

It installs with MBT.

But this is strange. I have gotten a Error Processing Request several times when starting to play a file, and I can only clear it with a clean reinstall (files play fine in browser or in MPC-HC). It has happened more than once after having tried the madVR filters. MadVR work with some files, but others get another kind of stutter with filter set to Stable, and the sound in not in sync if I chose Edge. And now the sound completely refuses to play in some movies. The unrar.dll message comes after deactivating madVR. I'll have to look more into all this, but it is really annoying that there is not consistency.

Following byngo's suggestions got playback butter smooth for me. Key point is, I had to install madvr separately.

I am still working with it. I can get madVR to work with most files, but then in some the audio is out of sync, apparently random. But smooth playback. If I then restart MBT, the picture stutters again and I have to change back to EVR+. This really weird.

You stopped using Edge right? I decided to give Edge a try because of something mentioned in another post. It caused my sound to go out of sync ever so slightly. Changing it back to Stable took care of the sync issue.

I have tried with both, but with no difference. Instead I have solved problem so far by delaying audio with 100 milliseconds in the lav audio decoder.

There is a very good guide to setting up madVR, LAV, subs and reclock over at avsforum:

http://www.avsforum.com/forum/26-home-theater-computers/1357375-advanced-mpc-hc-setup-guide.html

It appears that the Sandy Bridge chips are notorious for not being able to output 24p or 23,976 hz, so they output 23,972 or something.

I have run into a issue with green screen, when I go fullscreen. Changing between DXVA and QuickSync mostly settles it. I am running MPC-HC as external player.

Being tired of all this, I think I will get a Gigabyte Brix instead of the mac mini, as the latter has too many issues and are not responsive enough. The new brixs has Intel HD5500s IGPs and with 4gb and ram and a small ssd, they cost about what I can get from selling the mini.
