Higher bitrate when streaming remotely?

Hello experts, lately I have been watching a lot of TV/Movies remotely (workplace, hotels, etc.) and I mainly use my laptop's web interface.  I've noticed that I get pretty great quality at about 4Mbps, however, it isn't always smooth.  Playback sometimes becomes choppy.  For the most part 3Mbps yields good quality (all my movies are BD rips into MKV 1:1 copies) and the playback usually never skips.  I think 4Mbps is my max because of my upload speed at home (upload speed is somewhere like 8-10Mbps.  I have yet to get 5-6Mbps to play without stuttering.

Anyhow, today I had a dilemma where my movies was choppy even at 1Mbps.  The traffic using the wifi I am on is pretty high so setting the dial to 4Mbps isn't really always going to work because people are on it as well as me.  I was wondering if there was a way to have the movie buffer on my laptops end and temporarily store locally?  For example, I would like to be able to press the pause button, step away for a few minutes (go make popcorn) and then come back and play at 5-6Mbps even though the upload speed is a limiting factor and/or the download speed.  I feel like this kind of works with youtube but I'm talking about more of a temporary dump file that gets deleted automatically after reboot or something.... I don't know, I'm not expert.  Any ideas?

You might have more success with the upcoming sync feature :) If you are looking for buffering i believe you can just press pause in the client and let it sit for a while and then resume. (worked for me last time i needed it)
