Trailers question about movie ratings

Where does the trailers plugin get ratings for a given trailer? I see a movie called "Beloved Sisters" with a rating of "DE-6" which I assume implies it's appropriate for kids 6 years old, although from the description of the movie I don't get that impression.

Googling, I can't find a definition of "DE-6" and I'm wondering where that actually came from so I can investigate further.

I can't tell if this might be a case of the trailers plugin not handling some obscure/unrecognized movie rating properly, if the site that is sourcing this information has bad data, or if I'm just getting the wrong impression of this movie.

I don't see a "DE-6" anywhere on the page for that movie - http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/248934-die-geliebten-schwestern. Can you point to where it's getting it? By mishandling, I was wondering about the fact that I can't seem to find any info on what "DE-6" means nor is it shown on the TMDB page, so it makes me wonder if maybe there is some mis-parsing or it is getting mis-mapped to MB's parental control levels or something? Since it is getting mapped to a parental control level, it's not just a matter of "displaying as-is"; it's controlling parental control decisions.

Looking at the trailer and the IMDB keywords, this is DEFINITELY not appropriate for a 6 year old (sex scenes, nudity, etc) so something is wrong with this rating. If it's something that needs to be reported to TMDB then I need a tangible problem to point out yet as far as I can tell the TMDB page seems to imply that' it's "unrated" by omission (which is consistent with the lack of rating on IMDB). So again, that's why I think MB and/or the trailers plugin might be getting something wrong here.

If this is a case of "but not always" as you said, where else would it be getting it?

The trailers plugin is great, but getting ratings correct is twice as important as it is for movies and tv shows because trailers don't get actively added into MB like movies and tv shows, so I can't use libraries as a safety mechanism to ensure bad trailers don't get shown to my kids as I do with movies and tv shows. It sure would be nice to make trailers available to my kids but if I can't count on a "when in doubt, exclude it" philosophy (more or less the same as excluding unrated content), they can't use it.

we display as-is, there is no altering of the value. then later, for parental control purposes we have mappings here:

https://github.com/MediaBrowser/MediaBrowser/blob/master/MediaBrowser.Server.Implementations/Localization/Ratings/de.txt

you can do all the digging around you want to do but i can already tell you how it's going to end - it's a rating you don't agree with, the source can't be changed, so you just have to assign a custom rating.

Again, is it coming from TMDB or elsewhere? I presume elsewhere because I've searched the TMDB page and there is no "DE-6". I would like to know what the actual source is in this case so I can notify them of the (presumably) incorrect info. If you're saying that TMDB doesn't care if their rating information is wrong, that's pretty disappointing. But assigning a custom rating isn't really a solution here because again, this content comes into MB automatically as opposed to being actively added by me. Therefore I will usually not know if something objectionable appears in my kids' trailers section. The only reason I noticed it this time is because I was verifying the bug fix for "latest trailers".

Is there any chance of getting more control over the trailers such as being able to exclude foreign rating systems? If a movie doesn't have an MPAA rating then I would like to consider it to be "unrated" because with respect to MPAA it is unrated. I have very little interest in foreign movies myself and basically zero interest in foreign movies for my kids, so I would LOVE the option to either exclude foreign films altogether (maybe not a simple task?) or exclude films without an MPAA rating (seemingly easy). I don't necessarily agree with how the MPAA rates movies but at least with MPAA I know what I'm getting. Any foreign-only rated movies will be much bigger question marks for me. Maybe my only solution is to disable trailers for my kids, but it just seems like this problem isn't that hard to solve in one form or another.

It is the German/Deutsch certification that a user assigned it. If you disagree with this rating you can create an account an modify it.

IMDB has the same rating.

Ah, didn't look at that IMDB page (thanks for that link). I only looked at the main IMDB page. Nevertheless, there is no MPAA rating and the page you linked illustrates in DRAMATIC fashion the need for being able to exclude content from undesirable rating agencies because on that page one agency gives it a "6" and another gives it an "18".  :o So obviously TMDB wasn't in error since it matches IMDB but now I REALLY take issue with the "DE" rating system.

I'm going to make a feature request for MB (not trailers) to allow whitelisting and/or blacklisting rating agencies (treating unfavored agencies as "unrated"). It looks like this is pretty important when it comes to content that is automatically added to a user's library!

Trailers in general are very dodgy when it comes to ratings because they are released well before the rating agencies designate anything in most cases.  Therefore, you are left to the whims of whomever guessed a rating or no rating at all.

Yeah, I get that. Excluding "unrated" movies leaves out a lot for my kids but that's OK. There's enough left that it's still fun for them. That doesn't change the fact that different ratings agencies take shockingly different approaches to their ratings (as I illustrated above) so the request I said I would make (still haven't done it) still applies regardless, and the value of such a feature would not be not limited to trailers either.
