Newb here, so I'm sure I'm doing something dumb.   I have server loaded on my 7MC machine, and I'm attempting to share the "Recorded TV" folder of windows media center through media browser server.   I have tried setting the "TV Shows" library to both "TV" and "Mixed Movies & TV", with either setting my TV library shows as blank.   The later setting will expose the TV shows under the "Movies" library, so I can play them from there successfully.   Any help here would be appreciated!

I believe something may have been changed in MB... I just went to watch "Foo Fighters Sonic Highways" and although the folder was there - none of the episode were available. I then looked at the rest of my TV show library and nothing but folders... no shows!

Hey MB team - has something been altered? my configuration is as follows:

     N:\TV Shows (non-DVD)\Foo Fighters Sonic Highways\Season 01

     N:\TV Shows (non-DVD)\Foo Fighters Sonic Highways\Season 01\s01e01- Chicago.avi

From what I can tell, this is a supported file structure and it's worked for at least a year now...

Odd... I haven't installed the Dev version yet, but I removed the folder from my library - re-added it - and now everything appears to be coming back.

It's taking a while to rebuild but as soon as it's done, I'll let you know what's happened.

Everything is back now. I haven't updated to the Dev version because I don't want to mess around with this anymore today...

I can't explain why it happened but deleting the media folder from the library and adding it back cleared up all the issues.

i did notice an issue with the assigned folder type getting lost under certain conditions, so that was probably it. that's resolved in dev obviously.

All my TV Shows are now empty and the only way around appears to be for me to set them up as Movies and not TV Shows. Deleting and recreating the Media Browser for them doesn't help as seen inmy detailed thread:

http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/15820-tv-shows-type-folders-now-show-empty-all-of-a-sudden/

I have Media Browser Server Version 3.0.5464.40000

Also Luke your link gets me an error page:

Sorry, we couldn't find that!

Can you provide a valid dev link for download?

Update: I've tried with Version 3.0.5474.32194 and the problem remains.

I'm still having the same problem, despite having moved to the development branch.   If I classify the folder as "Home Videos", it works okay, but I loose all the series management capabilities.   Is there a problem with WTV files or something?

Please describe in more detail, with examples, file names, folder structures, what you are seeing in the web interface, etc.

This is a Windows 7, WMC installation.   All of my recorded TV goes to E:\Recorded TV.    There is no additional activities performed on the files, they are vanilla WTV files.    The capture device is a Ceton InfiniTV 6 ETH.    A very small subset of my recordings are copy protected, as only the premium channels have the "copy once" flag.

So, I am running MB3 3.0.5506.29521.  To add my library, I go to the server settings.   Then down to "Library" on the left.   I then click the "Add Media Folder" button.   I classify the content type as "TV".  Then I add the location as "E:\Recorded TV".   When I go to the user interface and attempt to look at the contents of the newly created TV library, there is nothing there.   All the tabs are entirely blank, except for "Shows" which shows a folder named "TempSWMC".   That folder exists, and I think it's part of the standard WMC install, but I'm not totally sure.

If I follow the same procedure but select "Home Videos" as the content type, the files all appear correctly and stream just fine.    I am using this workaround, but I prefer the additional filters that appear in the TV style content for Latest, Genres, People, Networks, etc.

Yes.   Exactly.    I'm getting the feeling that the next statement has something to do with being a dumb newb, lol.

In order to be "TV" to us, it has to follow some format guidelines.  What you have is just a collection of videos.

Please press the "Help" button on the library setup page and see the file format/naming requirements for TV (and everything else).   There are tools (like MCEBuddy) that can take your recorded TV and move it to a proper structure.

But it sounds like he also has serverwmc installed so he should be able to see all his recordings through live tv, no other actions necessary?

I would like to try out the dev version to see if it will solve my problem of not being able to see files under TV unless they are in a Season # folder, such as:  season 1

This only started after I setup a new htpc and a new install of Windows.  Trying 7 and 8.1 same issue and have tried every version of server that I have access to download here.  I still have the old server and if I hook it up, it works perfectly.  Videos in a flat folder (under name of tv show but no season folder) are all shown as it has for months.  I have ensured the same server version is installed on both machines and copied all settings 100%.  Yet the new server will only see videos under the TV category if they are in a season folder.

Also, on the new machine videos do show up under other sections such as upcoming shows.

If I use for example another media player such as Roku Media Player and browse the Media Center server, tv shows are displayed and the video files in each folder even if there is no season folder.  So something in all versions of MB server is requiring  a 'season' folder.  How can this be when it works perfectly on another computer?  It just happened over night with no other changes to my network or setup.

Is there not a section or setting or something to turn off the requirement of having a season folder for the TV category?

This is a different issue from the one in this thread as the OP just had a jumble of videos in one folder (no series).

Your issue just sounds like you need to adjust content type settings properly.  Press the "Help" button on the library page in the dashboard and be sure you've got your library structured in a supported format and have set the content types properly if you are using any sort of organizational folders in your TV.

I have the content settings setup correctly.  I've used MBS for around 9 months or so.  I follow just a tad over 100 shows that are retrieved for me through Sickbeard and Sabnzbd.

I have done a few reinstalls of the server over the months such as having it run on different PC's in the house before finally getting a dedicated HTPC setup and run it on there.  In ALL instances, this problem has NEVER occurred.  I don't use season folders and MB has worked great every time I have set it up.  I've never copied over an installation either.  I just setup a new install and configure it from scratch every single time.

But now, out of the blue, this last install, the videos will not show up in the TV folder, whether I'm browsing using the web interface on a PC in the house or the Roku, it acts like there's no videos there at all.  But if I go to Suggested, Latest, or Episodes, the 'missing' files show up and will play.

Since the very first time I have ran MBS, the source location has remained the same, on a NSA320 nas box.  So no other changes have been done on the network.  The folder and file structures are exactly as they were around 9 months ago which as mentioned, during a few different installs, all worked properly with MB.

I have tried all versions of the server that are publicly available.  Makes no different.

I just need to know why on a brand new clean install, that it will not see video files in a TV folder unless they are in a season folder.  I know this is not an isolated case.

Another weird thing that's happening too is when setting up a category, any category, I only have available the C drive (there's just one drive in htpc because I don't and don't plan on, storing the actual video files on it), and an option to browse the network.  I have the video folders where the TV shows are available, mapped to a local drive letter for easy access.  But that mapped drive letter is sometimes available and sometimes not available when adding the paths to a category.  Just whenever it feels like after a restart of the server, sometimes I can use the mapped drive and sometimes not, just randomly.

can you show a screenshot example of a tv folder that isn't showing up? thanks.

Here you go (any suggestion?):

UPDATE : I've tested on the latest version 3.0.5569.0 and the problem remains even after trying to delete recreate shutdown several times. Also the new "web" display doesn't fix the issue I still have to set all my TV shows as Movies. But then this is causing a problem as the Movies folder is now full of TV episodes.

By the way where did the "Do not show empty folders" settings go?

so currently we don't support adding a tv show folder as a library, so you would have to add the folder above the librarians. based on your libraries i can see that it might be actually be working for some shows, but i'd call that coincidental. i've never really tested this so i can't say how it's going to behave.

Yeah, you are making it way too hard on yourself.  You don't have to add each show individually.  Just add the parent folder and we'll find all the shows within it.  Also, make sure the content type is TV not Movies as I saw you had in those screen shots.

Longrifle

just out of curiosity? why do you have so many locations in your library?

I have all my shows in one folder and it works perfect.

So you have multiple folders under your "TV Series" folder, right? I'll try that.

Now that I think about it I don't really see why I went that route.

Will get back here with feedback

NOTE: It used to work ok that way before. Perhaps adding more and more TV shows triggered something that broke all hell loose.
