lang-server 2
I was wondering why the windows 8 app doesn't seem to support direct play for movies, instead it's transcoding. The connection is a local network and the tablet has access to the files on the server (MBS). What I don't understand, if I use MBT on the same tablet, NO transcoding. The movies are in a MKV container, coded as H.264. Thanks
Solution 7illusions 1249 Posted January 13, 2015 Solution Share Posted January 13, 2015 2 reasons. 1.Even if the machine has access to the network, the app doesn't. It's a security thing in Win8.1. The user would have to grant access for every movie to play via a filepicker screen, drilling down to the folder of interest. 2. The app doesn't support mkv since MediaFoundation doesn't, which is used in the app. Both of these restrictions will most likely disappear with Windows 10, which by latest rumors might be released earlier than expected.
