Hey Guys,

I am using MPC-HCx64 as my external player and I have it working fairly well but the one issue I have is starting to bug me more and more each day.

I selct the movie or TV Show and it opens and works great.  But when I hit the stop button it just stops the movie.  I have to hit the escape key to make the player smaller and then close it from the X in the top right.

Or I need to let the show run right to the end and watch all the credits.

My command line Arguementys are: {PATH} /play /close /fullscreen

Is there one for a force close on stop?

Are you using a keyboard or remote that uses keyboard shortcuts?

If so, I had the same issue and had to go into MPC-HC to change the keyboard shortcuts within the program that when I hit X it closes MPC-HC. This both stops the video and closes the program.

I am using a keyboard.

The issue is when I move the mouse I don't get an X. If I move the cursor to the bottom of the screen I get the play/stop/pause bar and if I hit stop it doesn't close MPC

Is this how it is with all external players?

I am not sure about the other ones. I have only ever used mpc-hc.

I meant hitting x on the keyboard itself to stop the video/close the player. But you have to set up that shortcut from within mpc-hc

theres a few ways you can sort it. Easiest way it using Event Ghost - this program is handy for all sort of things.

If you've never used event ghost it looks daunting at first but its very easy. I setup a macro so that when i press stop on my remote it executes a bat file with the following command

taskkill /F /IM stereoplayer.exe

obviously this closes stereoplayer.exe for me, its quick and silent. if you need more info on my eventghost setup post here and i will try to do a small guide and screenshots of what i have.

EDIT: just noticed on my MBT external player settings theres a box at the bottom which says force close on stop. have you got this ticked? Ticking this on mine didnt work for stereoplayer so thats why i used the command above.

The easiest way is just to map the 'Exit' function to the escape key in MPC-HC. Thats what I have done so that whenever I press Escape it exits the program. This is done through the options menu in the keys section.

Okay that works for a keyboard but what about using an MCE remote. Right now the stop button is mapped in MPC-HC to Media-Stop. When I push stop on the remote nothing happens; no stop and no close. The MCE remote works fine in WMC.

I thought mpc had a command line switch to close the player on stop, or maybe that was vlc. I don't remember.

I found that my stop button wasn't working in WMC either and nobody in my house told me. I mentioned it to my wife and she said, "Yeah, it's been like that for a while now." UGH! I don't use it much as I'm at work but really? This would explain why WMC doesn't automatically stop when switching inputs like it is supposed to do. Sometimes the deeper you dig the more buried you get.

"Yeah, it's been like that for a while now."

Now you know how we feel when users do the same thing to us :)

We've been using Blue Neon for Roku for emby playback for a while now but I want to start using ET for the superior playback capabilities.

Does anyone have mpc-hc working to auto close and return to emby when the stop button is pressed? This used to work perfectly in previous versions.

I have the following switches setup.

{path}
/play
/close
/fullscreen

That only closes mpc when the video is stopped. If you let the video play to the end, you'll see it works just fine. Something else is going to be needed to intercept the stop button and tell mpc to stop.

I don't have a problem getting MPC to stop but that just leaves me with a blank screen. I guess the only solution is to FF to the end of the video.

something must be wrong then because although i haven't used mpc in a while, i specifically remember those params being just fine back when i used to.

I remember it used to work back in WMC. I've tried it on several PC's. I did a lot of searching but couldn't find anything to make it work.

Sorry to bring this up but Ive been having this issue for awhile also. If I used to hit the stop button then it would stop the video and close out mpchc now it just stops the video... I'm using wmc for emby app right now... Also does the web interface need to be enabled in mpchc I just noticed its not

I don't use emby theater yet, so I can't validate this will work, but the solution when using MPC with a remote in WMC is to remap the exit key.

In MPC "keys" option. change the "exit" command to use remote key media-stop.  When "stop" is pressed on remote, MPC will stop and exit back to Emby.  Note. you will need to remove the mapping "media-stop" from the "stop" key.
