Swynol 375
Hi, Just wondering how SSL would work with a DDNS. So for example to access my media remotely i use a DDNS server (no-ip). Do i just need to use https://mydomain.no-ip.info:8920? i havent created a self signed cert, so does MBS do that for you? and if so what is the difference between MBS doing it and creating your own self signed cert? and my final question is, i have a domain name which is forwarded to me DDNS name, will this affect the cert? jabbera 23
There is no difference between a self signed cert generated by you or media browser. If you are not buying an actual cert from an ssl vendor you won't see any difference between the two. (We use the external DNS setting to generate the self signed cert) the important thing if you are buying a cert or adding the generated cert to the trusted store on your clients is the common name matches what you are typing in your browser. We do this by default if you set the external DNS prefix in mbs so you shouldn't have to worry about it.
twos50 8
I'm a newb in this aspect. If I have users connect using MB Connect does that utilize https or is the information going back and forth encrypted? jabbera 23
I don't belive so currently. You would need to enable the option that says publish https endpoint as my public endpoint. That would work if your clients only connected with chrome. The rich clients like the android and windows clients have not been updated for ssl yet so they will stop working if you enable this option. Once they are updated it should be safe. I have no eta however.
