Aspect Ratio

Hi,

Great app and thank you very much for your efforts!

I find that many movies appear "squashed" horizontally because their aspect ratio is larger than the TV's aspect ratio of 16:9. For example, the movie "The Great Escape" has an aspect ratio of 2.40:1 so when its displayed on the TV at 16:9 (1.77:1) then the actors (etc) in the film appear taller than normal.

Would it be possible to add an option to "crop" a movie/TV Show to 16:9 so that the central 16:9 part of the frame is what's displayed on the TV?

Also what about another option to "zoom" a movie/TV Show where aspect ratio is smaller than the TV's 16:9?   Eg 4:3 (1.33:1) movies & TV Shows could be zoomed (ie cut off top and bottom of frame) so that the frame fills then entire TV screen.

Kind regards,

Matthew.

Also, the kids were just playing a movie, it displayed as 4:3 (ie squashed horizontally), but then I skipped to chapter 2 and suddenly it displayed as 16:9 (ie took up the entire screen as expected). When I went back to chapter 1 it was still 16:9.

If I bring up the media info in MediaBrowser it shows an aspect ratio of 1.85:1 as shown below.

In the Samsung app it didn't show any info "badge" about the aspect ratio.

I haven't noticed the issue here yet.  The aspect ratio on my files looks fine.  I've got mostly 16:9 files, but I do have some 4:3 files that look fine.

I just played a 4:3 video and it played in 4:3, but then I selected a different chapter (Tools, Chapters) whilst it was playing and the playback switched to stretched full screen.

Will check other videos.

I've been able to duplicate the same as CBers on two 4:3 videos so far.  It plays fine if I hit play or choose a chapter from the info page.  However, if I change the chapter in the middle of playing using Tools... chapters then it plays it stretched in full screen.

Aspect ratio fixed and new release available to download now.

Oh that's a shame, I quite enjoyed watching 4:3 videos full-screen :)

I just tested Seven Samurai (has a 4:3 aspect ratio) and changing chapters in the middle of the movie using the Tools button worked for me.  This same movie in previous version would stretch to full screen when changing the chapters midstream.

Confirmed here as well.
