breezytm 124
There used to be an option to enable extenders transcoding but now it is no longer there. Does that mean MBC doesn't transcode anymore. It looks like it is transcoding though even without the option because some videos are pixelated. I had it selected before that option disappeared. How can I ensure it is disable? Thanks
ebr 14903
That option actually was from the MB 2 days and referred to using an old product called Transcode 360. The user would have had to install that separately for it to have any effect and that project hadn't been updated since Windows XP 2005.
breezytm 124
Right. When I started using MB3 after it was released I recalled that option being in the MBC config tab. I configured MBC since early last year and never touched it since. Yesterday I went to uncheck the transcoding feature and it was no longer there. Now what I am trying to understand is: Does MBS transcode videos for MBC? Specifically in extenders. I can play MP4s fine but I can't play MKVs without having pixelated video even if I add .mkv to the extender formats config. According to this post: http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/18214-how-to-direct-play-mkvmp4-files-on-an-xbox-360-extender-with-mb3mb-classic/ MKVs should direct play now if Optional Media is up-to-date. I haven't seen any post from any forums, yet, regarding MS adding mkv support for XBOX 360. Also if you check #9 He/she has the "Enable Transcode 360" option in his/her MBC config. ebr 14903
No, MBC does not do any special transcoding for the extender so the items need to be in a format it can consume. Unless you actually had a copy of Trandcode 360 installed on your machine (and it worked) that option wasn't doing anything.
breezytm 124
Uhmmm not MBC. MBS. I honestly didn't know much about MB at the time so I didn't know Transcode 360 was a separate application. I just checked the box.
ebr 14903
MBC would have to request that the server transcode if you were on an extender and it doesn't do that.

I transcode MKVs to MP4.
breezytm 124
I am in the process of converting my files as from mkv to mp4. In the post I mentioned above, the writer claims to be able to direct play MKVs. I haven't found any information to support what he wrote but if one person can do it then everyone should be able to. ebr 14903
I think it depends on exactly what is in the MKV but, in general, that container is not well supported on the 360.

I thought the same thing too but when I transcode my MKVs to MP4s they look great on the extender using MBC. The MKV container usually contains the typical h264, dts, ac3, stereo, etc...MBS should be transcoding the audio mostly not the video. That's why I asked if MBS do any transcoding for MBC. My transcoding parameters are v: copy a1: aac 2.0 a2: ac3 6 channels sub: eng
ebr 14903
No transcoding would be taking place when playing back on the 360 - unless the location was altogether unreachable.
