Not sure which forum this topic fits, but I have the following router: Linksys EA4500 Dual-Band N900 Router and am not having any success in port forwarding,  i have tried following various directions, but must be missing something.

Tried to follow instructions on portforward.com, but having difficulty figuring out the settings including a static IP....

My movies are stored on a NAS (Synology) if that makes a difference...  desperately seeking help and advice!

THANKS!

Your post is a bit confusing......

So port forwarding is what is required to allow you access to Mediabrowser via port 8096 from the internet.  Is that what you are trying to do?

In most cases your public IP address will not be static, you can find it by going to www.whatismyip.com.

If you are going to access it from the internet, I would sign up for free dynamic dns, through someone like no-ip.org.  You could have say james.no-ip.org, and a client you enable on your router checks in regularly to report it's IP address.  This way james.no-ip.org almost always points to your current IP.

On the router itself you want to ensure that port 8096 going to the public IP address is redirected to port 8096, to the internal IP address of your Mediabrowser server.

You can also use duckdns as your dynamic dns provider and it is free with no nagging. :) It isn't generally integrated into routers though. :(

you could also skip synamic dns and use mediabrowser connect. Alhough every user then needs a forum account on here.

Maybe someone should create a dynamic dns plugin....

I have tried mediabrowser connect, but can't access the media outside of my home network.

Just can't seem to get the correct settings on my router for port forwarding.....

Are you sure port forwarding is the issue? Have you tried connecting via your current wan IP address? You can find that on your Dashboard within the server web client. If you can connect using that IP then port forwarding is not your issue.
