WOL & Wake on Wan for Windows Phone App.

Hello Everyone,

I am posting this here as kind of a poll to see how many of you would like this added to the Windows Phone Media Browser App. I contacted Scott and he suggested I post here to see how many people would like this feature added.

When Launching the MB3 Windows Phone (or any mobile app really) but specifically for this poll, the Windows Phone App..I would like to have the app send a WOL or Wake on WAN to wake a sleeping PC/Server.

I sleep my HTPC and the MB Server is installed on it. If my PC is asleep the Phone App won't wake the PC.

I would like the ability to setup the Phone App to wake my HTPC and then connect to the MB Server.

I would especially like Wake on WAN ability as I am away from home quite a bit and it would be nice to be able to wake the sleeping PC by just launching the MB Phone app instead of having to use a separate app to first wake the HTPC and then opening MB on my phone.

So please post below if you would like to have this feature added. This will give Scott some idea of whether or not to look into adding this functionality.

Thanks,

newfiend~

Can I want this but for the ios app?

Im an iphone user, and its amazing, but its missing this (unless Im not seeing it), again not to keep bringing up xbmc but xbmc app has a wake on lan feature, its one thing i am missing.

I put my pc to sleep, it would be nice if i could wake my pc from the app itself, its all part of end users being able to easily use a media player without downloading additional apps to do a simple function, im surprised you need to support for this.

I would even like it to go one step further, and be able to shutdown, restart and navigate (up, down, left, right) htpc clients as well that have media browser theater or media browser classic running.  And it would be nice if the app's on all (android, iphone, windows phone) could all fully control the stand alone clients like xbmc can. This makes it all easier for the end user (and i know alot of casual users who are very interested in mb3) to easily operate htpc software clients.

Thanks for posting Ghostm, I don't mind you adding your comment on here at all. I think that any true mobile app should have this ability. I know a lot of people who sleep their HTPC's. I post a bit over at the Greenbutton.tv and most of the users there set up their box to sleep when not in use. I use the Ceton my media center app to schedule recordings remotely and this has WOL capabilities. I think adding WOL/Wake on WAN to it would be a much welcomed feature for Media Browser on a mobile device. I'm actually hoping more chime in on this regardless of the mobile platform WP/iOS/Android..

I wonder if this should all come from the server api, then apple, android, developers and more could all easily add these functions for use when people use mbc or mbt, I dont know anything about building a server, but i think if the server could offer more robust control of clients (specifically the htpc clients) it would be easy for other developers of apps to add this stuff. But again I dont know how mb3 works so its just a suggestion, im just a casual end user.

Its the biggest issue i currently have with media browser is the control aspect of the htpc clients (mbc and mbt) after switching from xbmc.

Things like WOL in app's are just functionality that i would like to see be available as an end user since its a feature some people need. When i started using xbmc I asked what most people use to control it, some were still using harmonys and hard buttons (seems more popular on here then xbmc community), but many casual users said I just use the app even wives love to use it. I downloaded their app, and it could do everything I would want, on screen keyboard from my phone, restart pc, sleep pc, wol, navigation arrows for navigating the client on my tv (arrow buttons), every button i would ever need, and that went for the ios and android app and i tested both.

Anyway sorry for getting off topic, i dont want to crowd this feature but i think it should be part of mb3 as well as some more robust control options for htpc/servers in general.

Agree, it would be nice to have the option to send a WOL packet to any sleeping server from any mobile device, Phone or tablet. It takes a lot of steps to get it working now. If there were an option on the mobile devices to either set up an automatic WOL when launching the app or an option to wake manually first, doesn't matter to me. I would just like to be able to do it from the MB apps without having to use a WOL app or another app that has WOL already first to wake the PC then have to close that and then open MB3. I'm really liking MB3 so far I hope these features one day make it into the mobile apps.

Not a windows 8 user, but +1 for the views expressed here. I have MBC (which can do WOL), the Android app (can't) and the Roku client (also can't). Any move to include WOL on clients across the MB3 range would be gratefully received here, particularly for the Ipad app when it arrives.

regards

Thanks Scott!!! I think this will be a great addition to the app. It will make it much easier when launching MB3.. Now if we can get the other app developers on board as well this will be great!

Thanks so much! :D

I also want to throw my vote for wanting this capability.

Being able to wake my server via the phone would make it much more flexible for me.

The next update to the Emby Theater Windows Store app will have Wake on LAN. You'll be able to wake a server from the server selection screen. Just click on a server as usual, and you'll see "Wake On LAN" as one of the options in the menu for that server.

Enjoy.
