Has anyone tried the app on a TV dongle?

A while ago I tried out an MK802 android dongle as a possible replacement for my xbox. Didn't work, firmware would not update and wifi performance was appalling.

So I'm now looking at some more meaty devices to use with the TV, for example this -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Quad-Android-1-8GHz-Output-HI718/dp/B00E7OSRBE/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=34DCFM0R6B5KF&coliid=I1DW3L0BWKNUVU

- has ethernet connection and users report good performance with iPlayer and other apps.

Has anyone tried the MB3 android app with a box like this? How would the PQ be on a 50" TV?

Always the optimist :)

I've tried the android app on a dual-core mk808, it works fine and looks good on my 46" when the android is running 1080p. Interface could look better, but movies look great.

Only problem ive seen with it is when its playing a video in the MB app it becomes a bit sluggish, but it is only a dual-core. Works better than my dell zino HD though that was $300, that thing cant even run MBC without slugging around.

Defiintely not a bad buy for the price, id just suggest a quad core, and a non wifi like you linked. (wifi on mine is terrible too, works ok for me but its only 5' from the router, in the next room its REALLY bad)

ill post some pics later

EDIT: I should add, when I said a video playing makes it sluggish, the video plays fine, its the rest of the android OS that becomes sluggish

The mouse cursor was all spazzy because I was using it on a pillow from across the room :P I'd rather spend $50 on an android mini PC for clients around the house than build a couple hundred dollar HTPC.

Hi @@shaefurr and All - Great discussion thread.

Thanks for posting the pics and video. This really seems to open up a world of options when you couple it with the teaser from @@Redshirt in this thread

Assuming a quad core processor as a baseline, moving up to the US$100 range there are a couple of devices that caught my eye.

First the Android Mini PC "Halo" - 1.6GHz Quad Core CPU, 2MP Camera, 1GB RAM, 8GB Memory (pic is hyper-linked Amazon)

...and the DracoTek Quad Core Android 4.2 TV Box (MINI PC) "ATV" with 1.8GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, Full HD Output, HDMI DLNA WIFI 8GB HI718  (pic is hyper-linked Amazon)

I am having to re-evaluate my migration path from an older extender to an Intel NUC at significantly more money. Cheers, @Tanamur

Might want to check out these new little guys too:

I'll be ordering one soon ($99 USD).  If you are familiar with cubieboard or cubietruck, this is the next generation from the same designer.

Hi @ -Thanks for the RADXa link. Ohhhhh - dual boot Android and Linux looks great. I see several of the android devices on Amazon come preloaded with XMBC.

Must admit I'm a bit nervous about these devices after my initial experience. Lots of bad reviews for many of these, and others that are so new they have not been reviewed. Good luck with yours.

BTW, I use Apex launcher on my Galaxy S3, haven't had a crash yet.

This is what I use.  Works very well and there is a version of XBMC that works well with it.  I think that MB3 is a far superior product to XBMC.  But the remote works with XBMC and not MB3... Yet.  I wish there was a MB3 Launcher!!!

Minix x7 mini.
