heula 189
Nobody with any answer? It would be nice to use mediabrowser instead of samsungs "All Share" but then subtitles must work.

Jvtm 13
Hey @@Luke great to hear it's planned. Having subtitles work in dlna would be a powerful feature for my family. Just so that I can start planning, will this work with all types of subtitles (hard coded, external) or only one variety. Just to clarify, I'm wondering about my mkv files that have the subtitles embedded vs other file types for which I have .srt files. Thanks again for all your valuable effort! Luke 36997
it should work in the current stable server. it was part of the announcement of the last release. by default it starts playing based on user language settings, then you can change on the fly using remote control from the web interface (and other clients that can do that). Jvtm 13
Hey @@Luke. Yeah I saw that in the release notes and I set up MBS to default to eng subtitles (I was super excited to see this!) However I am still not seeing subtitles. I'm running Version 3.0.5289.18702. Is it working well for you? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Jvtm 13
By the way, I am using a custom dlna profile for my Sony BDV-2013 (model sold here in Brazil). I've had this profile since the previous server version. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Luke 36997
yea but it burns them in with transcoding. what's probably happening is it's direct playing to the device without transcoding. unfortunately when that happens, there's no command in the upnp protocol to tell the player to switch tracks. but i can resolve the issue by forcing transcoding when you use the picker in the web interface, although you might find that less desirable. but those are basically your options. have it work with transcoding, or direct play and use your device's physical remote. Jvtm 13
I just checked my profile and I definitely have MKV set up for direct play. If I understand you correctly, if I set mkv to be transcoded I'd get my preferred language burned in. That might be a good enough solution. Also, I've tried to use my physical remote (mentioned this in another post I just made) but I get no subtitles there either even tho the sony interface shows me that it's scrolling the various subtitle tracks. Any ideas on how to trouble shoot that? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Jvtm 13
Sorry I can't post logs at this moment Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Luke 36997
no, leave it. if it starts out as direct play, the server will not switch to transcoding when subs are selected. that will be fixed for the next release.
Jvtm 13
Ok I'll leave it as direct play. I'm guessing logs will help here. My guess is I should start logging, attempt to dlna stream with subs, then capture and post that. Sound about right? Luke 36997
no, not needed because i see the issue.
Jvtm 13
Oh ok, great. Just to make sure I'm clear is there anything I can do now to help resolve the issue (for me or anyone else who runs into this)? I'm still not clear if there is anything I can do to get subs working with my current set up. Looking at the two options you mentioned earlier I can transcode (not recommended by you) or use the physical remote to switch subtitle tracks (not working at the moment). Did you mean to say that there is an issue that will get resolved in a future release? Thanks for your feedback by the way. Luke 36997
if you configured language settings correctly then you should get subs because that will trigger transcoding. so i think you probably need to revisit those settings.
Jvtm 13
Ok, will do! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Jvtm 13
Hey Luke, the settings are fairly straight forward and I think I got them right. Anything here look off to you? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Luke 36997
no, you'd have to look at the server log and see if transcoding is happening. and also make sure it's done with the right user, the one who used the web interface to start playback.
Jvtm 13
Ok will do that tomorrow. Let me just say, I work for a software company (I'm a neuroscientist not a programmer) and the support here is on par with what we try to offer our paying customers. Kudos. Thanks again. Jvtm 13
One last thing...if it's not transcoding, could it be because I don't have mkvs specified for transcoding in the profile: Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Luke 36997
no, it just means that when it has to transcode, it will use ts, which is probably a good choice.
Jvtm 13
And here are my direct play settings: Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Jvtm 13
Hey @@Luke, So I went ahead and tested subtitles using an MKV that has several subtitles and audio channels to choose from. As before I was not able to get subtitles to the renderer. I got these logs from the same profile which was being used to send the data over dlna and i had DLNA logging on. I hope this gives you some insight as to what is going on. server-63540472800.txt
