Full Screen Issue

I'm having an issue, in where when I wake up the computer or stop the screen saver,  MTB will think its in Full Screen mode(max window) but the bottom task bar will completely showing.   To adjust the screen I have to get out my keyboard click the window size button to the smaller sizing, then kick full screen again and all is well until the next time.

Thoughts?

I've noticed this as well but I figured it was due to a third-party utility applying the taskbar to my second monitor. MBT is under the taskbar at the top of the screen. Only way that I've been able to fix it is send it to my primary monitor which is larger and then resize.

No. I've stopped using MBT because it has become unstable and unusable for video playback without a third-party viewer. If I have to use a third-party viewer, I don't have any reason to use MBT. However the web client gives better performance and playback across all my devices (Windows PC, iPhone, iPad, and Kindle Fire Tablet) so I use that and the Roku client almost exclusively. One day they may release the new version of MBT they are always talking about but after a year, I've given up hope.

Interesting

I find the exact opposite.  oh how i love technology.

For me MTB is pretty stable where the web client is constantly showing bugs

oh well

I've got the same issue on mine as well. It doesn't always show the taskbar, but it pops up from time to time. As well as the issue with minimizing MBT not working properly (part of MBT is still visible in the lower-left part of the screen).

I had this issue a few time and found that it was due to something switching focus to the taskbar bringing it to the front. Generally for me it was windows security / maintanence center displaying a message. I turned off a lot of the notifications and removed most things from sitting in the system tray and have never had an issue since.

May not be what is causing your problem but could be worth a try.

Could you also post a screenshot?

What if you click again on MBT? Do you get it again as fullscreen?

My screen shot wasn't working for some reason, so here's the poor mans version

The MBT window thinks its in full screen but obviously isn't.  I have to get out my keyboard click the window size button to the smaller sizing, then click full screen again and all is well until the next time.

i had something similar which was due to resolution changes. i found that when my Server/htpc goes to sleep or the screen goes off and then i turn the TV on + wake up, if the PC wakes up before the TV is fully on the resolution on the PC is set to a default low setting. when the TV is then on and the hdmi handshake happens the resolution is set to 1080p but i see the taskbar.

what i did was to install splashtop (similar to a ultraVNC client) while the PC was on but the TV was off (maybe even unplugged the hdmi cable), i remoted onto the PC and i saw the resolution of 800x600 i think, which i then changed to 1920x1080. close the remote session. This is now set to the default setting, when my PC comes out of sleep or screen off mode there's no change of resolution when the handshake happens and i no longer see the taskbar.

I had the "resolution" problem back then, too.

When I switched my AV-Receiver to another channel, it "disconnected" the HDMI and my MediaCenter thought it got no monitor left. So it switched back to 640x480 (i think).

It messed up my display and it constantly showed the taskbar. Additionally, on Windows 7 I had the issue that it started disabling Aero and messed up the graphics performance.

Basically, what happens is that Windows thinks there is no monitor attached and falls back to a "default resolution". There are several fixes out there where you have to dig into the registry and tweak stuff. What I found the more easy way was this:

1) Disconnect the Monitor / AV-Receiver physically (unplug the cable)

2) Connect with another device using Remote Desktop (Default windows RDesktop does the job perfectly)

3) Change Resolution to desired one (FullHD in my case)

4) Reboot machine with still unplugged cable

5) Check if Remote Desktop has the proper screen resolution

6) Reconnect AV-Receiver / Monitor / TV.

7) If not already correct, set the proper resolution.

It fixed the issue when my HTPC went to sleep and / or when I switched the channels on my Receiver. It kept the Taskbar away and additionally, it stopped Media Browser from resizing / windowing itself. Only problem I get from time to time is that my taskbar pops up when I get a tray notification or when Media Browser starts after boot it doesn't have the focus. But that's kept at bay with an alt+tab on my Harmony remote.

Edit says:

Crazypete00 already provided the answer - must have scrolled right through that :-)

Kind regards,

I have the same issues occasionally but usually just when I boot up (with MBT set to start with Windows) then MBT starts of course - full screen so to speak but not in focus and so I see the windows taskbar.

I have a generic USB infra-red remote control which has a mouse pointer and left / right mouse buttons included. I can just left click on the screen which brings MBT into focus ie overlay and ontop of the desktop taskbar.

Maybe I need to try the task bar notification / security warnings and the like. I will see if that helps.

I don't think the resolutions is my problem though because I can switch over the AVR, and or switch off the TV /AVR and the desktop resolution (1080p 60) is what it comes back to life with. Mind you, I don't hibernate or sleep the PC. Its either on or off.

Thanks Crazypete00 and BlackEternity, I have been having this issue constantly whenever the PC/TV go to sleep.

I did find that if you minimise and maximise the window or simply press the "\" key twice it fixes it.

Will be trying the permanent fix tonight.

So i'm soo close

Remoting in did work in principle.  However when I  went to change the resolution it was in VGA mode (which was the only option) and the largest resolution I could set was 1600x1800

ideas?

there is another option for people having problems. after rebuilding my htpc ultraVNC'ing onto it and changing the res didnt work. i had to change some options in the registry.

goto

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration

in configuration i had a few keys each one represents a display that has been connected to the HTPC.

in my case i had onkyo amp, a few dell monitors and a few virtual displays (ultraVNC)

delete all of them.

next VNC onto the machine and you will get a new entry. click on it and then on "00" or "01"

you will then see PrimSurfSize.cx and PrimSurfSize.cy - by default these are usually 1024 and 800.

change .cx to 1920 and cy to 1080 and stride to 7680 (make sure you click decimal when changing)

next turn on your av receiver tv etc and you should see a new entry. do the same - enter the new cx and cy entries.

see my screenshot below - under configuration you can see my 2 entries, one for my onkyo amp the other is simulated is ultravnc/splashtop remote desktop.
