Just FYI, not sure if it was done on purpose, but left click function has changes with the new interface. Before change if you left click you got program info, details, and zoom options for media center. Now you do not. Also the hot key for zoom aslo seems to be disabled. This unfortunately is a must have feature for me. I've decided not to use the new interface.

The new interface is completely new so it doesn't have all of the WMC player's contextual menu. Most of that menu is irrelevant when playing content in MBC anyway. Ebr would have to create functionality to mimic what was in the default OSD menu. (almost positive on that based on talk about other stuff).

May I ask why you need the zoom? Do your videos not fill the screen properly?

That's fine I understand if that no longer works with the new interface. I just wont be able to use it. A good 70% of the TV show I have are before 16:9 became the norm. I use the zoom function to remove the black bars from the sides of those tv series. As well as remove the letter box around some movies I have. If this isn't something to can be done, then so be it. Not that big a deal. As long as I can turn it off I wont have a promblem with it. I Just wanted to get it out there that it was no longer working.

Also Ebr the new interface looks really nice, great work!

If you zoom old TV shows, yes you remove the black bars, but then you either lose some of the top/bottom or you stretch the picture.

It's your personal preference so not going to claim "you are doing it wrong" but it seems like a strange compromise to make.

As for the movies with black bars, if you don't have a ton like that you should look at re-encoding them using software that automatically crops off the black bars.

Although I suspect that you may be doing the same thing as with the TV shows. You are either losing the sides or stretching the picture.

I am sure Ebr will chime in at some point and give you a definitive answer but with most people using MB3 being aficionados I don't think the zoom would be used by many or even wanted by most.

Yeah I honestly don't really care about losing some of the top and bottom of the screen. I know how that sounds to some people becauses they need their videos to be prefect resolution to watch them. I am the other way around. Most of my collections are far below 1080p. I just can't stand looking at those black bars. lol As I said it's not a big deal to turn it off. As I have not use it for more than a few minutes I don't feel I am really losing anything.

Doesn't the zoom stay activated once u have turned it on for all media afterwards or do u turn it off and on as u need?

Smitty018210 Do you use any external filters such as FFDshow or LAV? Just wondering because I'm pretty sure they could be setup to automatically zoom the picture to fit the screen. For example, I use a FFDshow profile which crops 3D side-by-side movies in half when I want to watch them in 2D.

Zoom functionality will be looked at in the next iteration of the new interface (meaning after I get this version to a release state).  I will have to custom-build it.

Just wanted to voice my support for this. Personally, I didn't even think about the loss of zoom, but I just know eventually the wife will mention not being able to get rid of the black bars anymore ... :)

Wow, I'm honestly surprised that people use zoom. But kudos to Ebr for saying he will look into it/add it in a future release.

Wife detests black bars. I detest stretched images. Wife wins :)

I don't understand the black bar thing. It took me a while to explain to my Mom why there were black bars on movies/tv when 16x10 and then 16x9 TVs came out. She kept telling me how part of the movie was cutoff. I was like "NO! it was cutoff BEFORE". Now you are actually seeing what the director intended you to see.

You know... you can both win if you get a projector... then your screen has no edges and it's just what you see! Or does she complain at the theatre too? lol

Thanks Ebr, that's pretty awesome of you. @techywarrior my guess is there are a lot people who still use it. lol I use it more because I am lazy and don't wont to re-encoding my video files. lol

I can vouch that we and some other people we've turned on to MB use and love zoom.  We watch a bunch of old shows like Taxi and Miami Vice and prefer the screen filled up despite the slight cutoff.

Thanks Ebr for fixing this soon.

My kids watch a lot of old square screen cartoons and even my littlest one knows to switch from zoom 1 to zoom 3 when watching those. When you have a rear projection HD tv you still have to worry about burn in. So yes, it's still a concern for some people.

Count me in too for the zoom feature.  Old TV shows, old movies, and kid's cartoons = Zoom 4.  It's a must have!

Don't know if it needs a new topic, but together with the zoom function, also the track selection for audio was in the same context menu.

More neccesary than the zoom function if you ask me :)

Great ! I have over 5K movies and TV series and they are a mix of all screen sizes....far too many to re-encode , and the zoom feature is a necessity for me . The loss of it was not received well by her-who-thinks-she controls-the-world. :(

So disable the new interface in the config page and everything is back to how it was...

  • 3 weeks later...

The new Beta version implements Zoom.  Both graphically in the new interface and with a step-through toggle of ctl-shft-z (the same key as WMC).

I have the new version and can use the arrow buttons on the remote to get down there, but the wmc zoom button on my remotes isn't doing anything.

I'm not aware of what that button actually is.  There is no tie in to it in the API.

I was told that ctl-shft-z was the zoom shortcut and that is what is supported in the new interface.

Oh, so you're just listening for keyboard equivalents, not the eHome WM_APPCOMMAND type commands?

I can give you the below info from Microsoft if it helps. I'll also try running ShowKey when I get home to see what keypress it's registering or if it's only sensing the appcommand. I have 3 different MCE remotes I can test with to see if it's all the same signal. I just know they all work with WMC or XBMC out of the box, no special configuration/mapping ever needed, just using the default eHome driver.

I am not operating at that level.  I am a plug-in in WMC and use the WMC API to monitor remote shortcuts and keystrokes and that API does not have a definition for "Zoom" (at least that I've found).

Do you see it here and I'm just looking past it?
