chef 3745
X360 KINECT™ Remote Control for Media Browser And... We're back! With something new! 3.0 This version still has some bugs, but it should control media browser. But guys, if you want kinect to control your media '{cring}' you should invest in an XBOX One. Please Post Log Files Found In "Settings\Global\Logs" (I think we need to zip them up, they are getting pretty long.) This application is currently under development. Known issues: 1. Speech is not consistently understood on test computers. 2. Some .Net errors occur while using the program. The Kinect Application now must install depending on your OS Environment: Current Versions:64bit Installler Version 3.1:https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/46151346/MBK64bit.zip 32bit Installler Version 3.1:https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/46151346/MBK32bit.zip Version Log:Test Version 2.6.671. Re-factored Face Recognition code, and tried to simplify it to figure out why Travelmanics can't use it.Test Version 2.6.651. Fixed Speech Recognition.... I think.Test Version 2.6.641. New splash screen, some interesting coded graphics2. Fixed Face recognition mess up3. Re factored code to make it easier for other developers to follow it, and help. I am offering up the source to anyone who can write VB.Net and wants to help.Test Version 2.6.631. The the Security stuff for the server has been perfected.2. New browsing code3. New Branding "Media Browser Open Air Remote"Test Version 2.6.621. The the Security stuff for the server.2. this version is going to be buggy as hell.Test Version 2.6.611. Streamlined code2. Started to use different JSON de serialization techniques3. Add Command List Sheet to the download called "Command List"4. Re worked the app recommending new media5. Started work on hand gestures control media playbackNote: Hand Gestures run the CPU really high, so I am trying to get the process to run in short bursts to control the CPU level.Test Version 2.6.601. Spaceboy error squashed!2. Re worked gender calculatorTest Version 2.6.571. Removed Changes to Speech Engine BuilderTest Version 2.6.561. Removed HotFix.Test Version 2.6.551. My bad... that is all I will say about my CUI.. (Coding Under an Influence...)2. Note: Still can't figure out the "Spaceboy Error", not sure why User Dto Info is returning NULL.----------------------------------------------------Test Version 2.6.531. Fixed KINECT Sensor "Initializing" error in the Speech Training during First Run set up. The Sensor is started earlier in the application, so it won't be still initialing when the audio source is started. There is also a loop to make sure that the Sensor is in a "Connected" state before Audio Enhancements are turned on.2. Add Culture Abilities to the Speech Recognition Engine. 3. (IMPORTANT: There needs to be some fixes for people who have been testing so far, if they are NOT going to use the "English-US" settings for the Speech Recognizer)4. Attempted to fix the (what I call) "Spaceboy Error" where User Buttons where NULL on the First Run Speech Training Page.----------------------------------------------------Test Version 2.6.521. Add Core Audio Functions to the Speech Properties Page to control Microphone array Level2. Removed code which might be the cause of the Speech recognition Engine not working properly.3. Added Handling to the Kinect Sensor if the status isn't "Ready" - wait until it is.4. Add some Parallel Subroutines to sort information from the Media Browser Server Faster.5. Added more information to logging, to help with fixes better and faster.6. Synchronized the proper release Build numbers to start work on the Automatic Update Button----------------------------------------------------Test Version 2.6.511. Fixed the errors when Face Recognition finds the user but doesn't recorded the User Name Property properly, and it was breaking the apps ability to find the Users image for the main form. (thanks @travalmanics!)2. Finally fixed USB FILTERS, so x64 OS computers should now be able to turn the LED different colors 3. Removed The Windows Recording Audio controls (to may problems, and they just stopped work correctly.----------------------------------------------------Test Version 2.6.51. Added a Read Out to the LOG from the "Install-Filter.exe" to try and figure out why the LED changer isn't working on some 64bit Computers2. Attempted to fix bugs with 64bit OS when taking control on Windows Recording Device Levels.3. Fixed a bug where two Speech Recognition Engines where being created during Application Start up.4. Added extra space in the Download Buffer to stop corrupt Installers of the Kinect For Windows SDK v1.7.5. On First Run - if there are Device Filters add to the Kinect Sensor from previous testing, these are removed to make sure that the latest filters are still working with a clean install.6. Added a Button to the Applications Main Form, which can be shown or Hidden remotely, when a new version is available. Spaceboy 2493
hey chef, i am still having trouble. the program starts without error now but loading the led filters does not work, it just continues to flash green. then when you get on to the speech profile trainer screen you get an error. continuing just hangs, canceling exits. i do wonder if i've got the kinect configured correctly before i start loading your app. the only kinect related thing i see in devices and printers is kinect usb audio. would it be possible to add a step by step installation guide to the top post? cheers
travelmanics 17
@@chef, install works fine but as expected LED filters do not appear to install correctly. App says they do but Kinect continues to flash green only. App goes straight into startup and I get the "this is a known error and hard to squash - just restart and you will never see the error again" message. Start app and after a few seconds I get the following error: folder.jpg does not exist. However, it does exist in settings\users\<USERNAME>. Appears you are looking for the file one level to high in the structure. click continue app says loading speech profiles and says like this. In the top right hand corner it says "last seen travelmanics" click devices and device list./ Select Media Browser Classic and get the following error: like the other error above you are not navigating into the <USERNAME> directory so it should be \\settings\user\<USERNAME>\Media Browser End of 2nd attempt. log file attached u 05/07/2014 22:31:26 BEGIN LOG ENVIRONMENT: 05/07/2014 22:31:26 chef 3745
Thanks for the testing. Indeed, if you are the only person logged into a media browser account somewhere, your kinect user account will load. I have run into major problems myself, apparently, the Microphone level bar I put in the Speech Properties page has broken, and it will probably not be fixable. Two major things happening in the attempts posted above: 1. In the first image posted, it looks as though the "userName" is missing from the string, when it is trying to find the users image. I will fix it. (example: "settings\users\\folder.jpg" - should be "settings\users\travelmanics\folder.jpg") 2. the second issue I notice right away is in the logs. It would seem as though the "install-filter.exe" is attempting several times to filter the Kinect Motor drivers however it is unsuccessful every time. 3. Taking a look at the USB REV Number in your log I see "107", however I see "105" in my log I will get back. Edited July 6, 2014 by chef
chef 3745
hey chef, i am still having trouble. the program starts without error now but loading the led filters does not work, it just continues to flash green. then when you get on to the speech profile trainer screen you get an error. continuing just hangs, canceling exits. i do wonder if i've got the kinect configured correctly before i start loading your app. the only kinect related thing i see in devices and printers is kinect usb audio. would it be possible to add a step by step installation guide to the top post? cheers @@Spaceboy, most likely you do have everything configured properly. If you are running 64bit OS you're not the only one with issues with LED color changes. And I am pretty sure that I am the only one who can get spoeech recognition working at the moment... Still working on it. Please try 2.6.
chef 3745
@@travelmanics @@Cynful @@Spaceboy I have Posted a version 2.6.51 There is a list of changes at the top of the page. I hope to god that this fixes LED color changes on 64bit machines, and "I also hope that 32bit machines are unaffected. I am still smashing my head against my desk as to why the Microphone level meter stopped working, we'll have to find another way to take control of Windows recording devices. EDIT: After reading a whole bunch of un-managed c++ code for setting volume mixers I believe I can create a wrapper for vb.net. chef 3745
Started to use "CoreAudio" library and was able to gain control of the kinect microphone array levels once more.
travelmanics 17
Hi @@chef. More progress with the latest build 1.) installs fine 2.) First run config - LED filters install "tick" and actually work this time. Kinect flashes red and orange. 3.) Facial recognition is fine 4.) App auto loads on completion of setting and get the usual error message i.e. difficult bug to squash. 5.) Kinect app says "Waiting" under speech recognized txt However, it does not not matter what I say it does not respond to anything. Just says "waiting". Changed the designation to "Hello" but that does not make any difference. I am using the command of "kinect" or "Hello" - "Start Listening" or "Go To Movies etc." but i get no response. chef 3745
@@Cynful that is strange that the .net error stops the log from recording what caused it. One good thing is that it narrows down the places where it would happen. The error seems to be caused when the window is trying to create one of the event handler for the user button. I will get back to you soon. The x64bit OS testers seem to be able to load this page okay. but I don't think that that is the cause if the error. I speculate that the "Object not set to an instance of an object" error, is perhaps an empty variable being accessed before it has been filled with a user name during a request to the server. chef 3745
@@travelmanics All I can say about the LED is: "FINALLY!" I will focus on speech recognition solely now. I have some theories about the problems. I am going to resort my computers speech registry back to a default window install, and that will most likely cause the app to act exactly as it does on your computer, no recognition. I can start to debug from there. One weird side note is that the speech recognition engine object is reading as listening in your logs. This leads me to believe that it is something happening in the speech registry. We are so much closer now. @@Spaceboy Can you confirm that the LED changes colour on your 64bit OS? trooper11 63
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but do you think you will get a chance to develop for the Kinect v2 anytime soon? I'm currently using my 360 Kinect with my pc, but I can definitely see myself replacing it with a new one if there is a lot that can be leveraged in an application like this.

If the version posted above still doesn't work. I have a new one which will choose a proper recognizer based on your culture. chef 3745
Well! This is some great news @@Cynful ! I have a new version which allows the speech engine to be built based on culture and geo-location. So yes it will only get better from here. The Kinect still isn't starting in time to begain audio capture though. I have to look into that some more. But one thing! The error that mentioned the UserImage. I would really like to see that error if it arises again. There might be a bigger issue there than it seems. @@Spaceboy! I have started to look into the Speech training error you received. I should have something this afternoon. Well it is afternoon here. Edited July 12, 2014 by chef

chef 3745
Okay, @@Cynful the client object is NULL. Luke added some new securities to the API in the server, but it doesn't seem to be affecting my client connection. However, it does seem to be affecting your. So, 1. open the server dashboard 2. Select "Server" from the left hand context menu 3. Select "Security" from the screen on the right. 4. Select "New" button 5. Add the Client name as "MBKinect1" 6. Delete the "Application Settings XML file, and restart. I hope that this fixes the NULL Client Object. I would need to know as soon as humanly possible, so I know if the latest Server Release breaks MBKinect. EDIT: I talked with Luke and these Securities aren't in use yet, so please try to restart the Server, and then re-start the Kinect App. This should fix the problem. chef 3745
Hi @@Spaceboy, In version 2.6.54 I have put together a condition which will tell us if the System NULL object is because of the Client Interface with the server or if it is one of the requests made after the connection, during the Speech training. Pretty much, the bottom line is: if it is the client object which is the NULL object, it will display a message box. If it isn't the client object then it will throw another .Net error. The problem with the .Net error you are experiencing, is that it tells me only that it happens in the form load, but doesn't tell me what object is causing it. So, it is hard to figure out. But I will figure it out Also, if "English Great Britain" is the only culture showing the the List, it is because you are from somewhere in GB, and that is the only culture installed with speech recognition on your computer. If you are not from GB, and you need to install other Cultures for Speech Recognition, we can do that. I can help you. But I think you are from GB, so you should be fine.
