Understanding transcoding

Hello,

 

I'm continuing to experiment with the Xbox One, DLNA, and the profile. I could be misunderstanding something, so I wanted to clarify. The Xbox One is capable of h.264 video and AC3 audio on direct play, but I think I am seeing transcoding in both situations.

 

See the following log. This is a DVD rip with 2 channel AC3 audio, yet it looks like the audio is being reencoded to AC3 again versus just the video being transcoded and the audio being copied. I see the same thing with most h.264. Despite the video characteristics being that such it should direct play, I get transcoding. Am I seeing this correctly?

 

I'm looking at where it shows the following:

Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (mpeg2video (native) -> h264 (libx264))
Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (ac3 (native) -> ac3 (native))

 

If it were directplay, then that should say "copy".
