FR Server Flag Content Direct Play Only or Do Not Transcode

Hi:

I have some "Copy Once" wtv content recorded in WMC, things like Game of Thrones, recent movies etc. I realize they can only be played on my WMC box, but my other users on various clients, probably don't. The server dutifully tries to transcode this content, but rightly produces junk do to the copy protection.

It would be nice from a UX perspective to be able to flag a TV series or movie as direct play only or do not transcode. I tend to find "positive" selections more intuitive so I would lean to Direct Play only, but it really doesn't matter. Just present some friendly message that the content can not be played and some kind of visual clue on the content (one of the traffic signs things)

In the interim I have moved the problematic content into their on folders and excluded them based on user profile. This works ok.. But not all clients support the consolidate like content (for people like admins) and remote users can't see content that they may have in their local libraries that can be moved to the server.

The above is my use case for this feature. Maybe others would have content that they want direct play only for other reasons.

Thanks!

Hi,

Thought I would bump this. Things have changed since op. With Connect and sync coming soon this is more important to me. I wouldn't want remote users to sync something or try to stream media and end up with something garbled. They won't and can't be expected to know "Oh I must have tried to do something drm content" They will just think it doesn't work. Not good PR.

Not looking for anything automatic. Just a check box in MetaManager and some friendly message displayed.

Thanks.
