naming tv shows/episode files for best recognition

Recommended Posts

something's wrong with the scraper & database thing...

i have different TV show naming schemes but i dont see any logic how the scraper works, sometimes same show only recognising 2 seasons, some recognizing none ..

(and they all work perfect in XBMC)

Curb Your Enthusiasm\Season A\Curb Your Enthusiasm - 0Ax0B - ep name.ext   -- only seasons 2,4 get recognized and only some episodes there

Friends\season A\0A0B.ext does some real funny sh*t

season 1 lists episodes as "01 - the one with ..." 20 times ,  -- all these will actually play a different episode ...?@!?@?@?

2,3,4 etc up to season 8 "08 - the one with " 20 times

but season 9 displayed normal

and then there's this:

Alias - i have all episodes under the show folder ... name scheme "101 - Truth Be Told"

the webclient/iphoneapp/MBTheater show the Alias image but when i go in there its empty.

but get this

using the XBMB3C skin (metro lookalike skin) its listing one of the Alias episodes in the big box thing and ... if i click it it will play the episode .. but again, in XBMB3c also has an emtpy Alias show folder ... wtf

anyway................. what is the naming structure that will give me perfect results in TV show scraping, dont give me options please, give me the one you use that works for you everytime with no issue....

I believe the most universal naming scheme is Show.S01E01.xxxxxx.ext, this identifies season and episode with no guessing. But it sounds like you are having an issue maybe with preexisting metadata or no metadata at all.  You would need to provide logs to determine your issue.

Episode pattern:

%sn.S%0sE%0e.%en.%ext

Personally, I use filebot to name my files with a decent naming scheme (series - 1x01 - episode name etc) and the MBS scraper generally has no problems with the metadata for me

+1 for filebot...... But I use 'season xx/series - SxxExx - episode name.ext'

I use SXXEXX.mp4 or SXXEXX Episode Title.mp4.  That format works fine.  I'm sure sticking the show title on the front wouldn't hurt either but I've no need to do so.  My shows are all stuck into a folder structure of \Show Title\Season XX before they're ever scanned by MB3 and they are backed up immediately after so what show I'm looking at is always pretty clear to me.

SxxExx anywhere in the name is going to be your winner.  Others will work of course but I find that the easiest.

I always used that since the days of MB2, never had a problem.

Hi.

I need some advice/help with this topic.

There's a problem that I have, and I can't find the solution yet.

Some aired miniseries have their DVD or Blu-ray release too, so, in many miniseries the digital content is not the same that the aired content.

So, you can find, "Aired order", and "DVD or Blu-ray order" on TVDB. (most are miniseries)

IMDB normally use the digital order, and TMDB seems only use the aired order.

Seems that Emby always use the "aired info" if you use, SxxExx. (I have no problem with TV Shows, just with the miniseries)

I own the digital content of the miniseries in my library on DVD or Blu-ray, so at time to do the scan, I always get  "aired info"

I have this problem with 3 miniseries.

BTW: I have a library for miniseries only using the TV Shows template. I tried using the Movies template but... do not work.

Thanks in advance.

I find something but is not working :(

In the metadada editor the options Dvd, Aired or Absolute are not working like you expect that need to be work.

With Dvd, it takes random episodes, it lost the order either.

With Absolute same as Dvd.

With Aired, all episodes but the wrong order and no name for the episodes that are not in TMDB.

So, I edit that library, and uncheck TMDB, but, it not pull the information or take TMDB Dvd order...

Maybe a bug?

The library is using TVShows template.

Thanks

Ok, so, what I need to do to get TVDB info only?

I check the info in TVDB an it is correct for Dvd.

Only select TVDB as a provider on the library.

You would have to go to TVDB and look at their DVD order for the series.

Yeah, i tried that already

Here is TVDB DVD order for that miniseries: https://thetvdb.com/series/the-bible/seasons/dvd/1

Here is the result using TVDB only with Display order: DVD

This is what i get. 5 episodes only and wrong order, etc. (The image scratches are capture fault)

Here is the result using TVDB only with Display order: AIRED

I know the search order is not in the captures, because I did that in the library settings which is where it is done.

Emby does not rearrange your media.  Your media has to be in the order of the selected metadata.

But TVDB API would be returning the wrong information if DVD shows 5 episodes and Aired shows 10.  The web site clearly shows 5 Aired and 10 DVD.

I will test but can almost guarantee the zipped metadata is wrong from their api.

Directly from their v3 api only show 5 episodes with no DVD data.

Their v1 en.zip is miss all this information also.  So the issue resided specifically with TVDB.

If we are lucky it might be fixed in their v4 release when ever that happens.

@ does this help at all?

Oh yes, of course, helps a lot. Thanks-.

At least we know now that is not my mistake, is TVDB issue. Thanks to @@Happy2Play for take the time to see this.

I'm curious about this services the latest months.

TMDB: a lot of images gone, no explanation + Api faults

Fanart: same as TMDB but most in logos and other arts. + Api faults

TVDB: Api faults

For the moment, I think the best thing to do is did the changes at hand and lock that miniseries.

Thank you!

@

have the responses here helped?

@Luke  The answers can confirm what I knew.

TVDB offers the two options, TMDB aired only. IMDB offers the DVD order

The Emby scraper pulls the aired with the 10 episodes. BUT! ... DVD order pull the wrong information from TVDB and just 5 chapters and with the wrong order and metadata.

I did the job at hand Using TVDB and IMDB this time, and lock the metadata.

Not sure if the Emby scrapper have some problem that need to be addressed, it can't handle DVD, Aired or Absolute in the right way.

Thanks.

What order are your files named in?

Now they are fix in the metadata at hand, one by one, using the TVDB and IMDB info, using the DVD order from the websites.

BUT I had to leave them in "Aired" because if I passed them to "DVD" or "Absolute" they would take a totally crazy order, something like chapter 1, 2, 3 and then 8 and 10 and showing 5 chapters only, although nevertheless did not match the number in the file.

The files are as follows inside the Season 1 folder. No tags or anything else weird inside the mkv:
S01E01.mkv
S01E02.mkv
S01E03.mkv
S01E04.mkv
S01E05.mkv
S01E06.mkv
S01E07.mkv
S01E08.mkv
S01E09.mkv
S01E10.mkv

I can't do more tests 'cause I had to locked the miniseries to avoid changes.
