KarenLorr 1
I have used MB for some years now. I had to reformat my hard rive (HP laptop) and reload all the systems, one of which was MB.I can load and use MB classic / MB server if I have a web connection BUT most of the time I work in areas that don't have any internet (yes they still exist). Then I can't get MB classic to load as it says "can't connect to MB 3 server, etc". Is there a way around this problem or do I have to go back to windows media player when I have no web access. Thank you Edited July 31, 2014 by KarenLorr
ebr 14863
Is the server on the same machine? How did you point to it? If you used the external IP address then this would be a problem. Otherwise, it should work fine.
KarenLorr 1
I have set to find automatically. Both MB classic and MB server are on the same laptop. When the is a web connection it works fine. When I turn off the wifi it will not work. The old Media Browser was much better. Just download it and use it. No problems. This new system is very fancy but it's just rubbish. I thought it may be just me but I did a google on this "Could not connect to Media Browser 3 server" and I see many hundreds of people having the same problem. oh well it was free. I'll delete and use something that works Not happy Edited August 1, 2014 by KarenLorr
ebr 14863
When I turn off the wifi it will not work. Why are you turning off wifi? That is turning off your network connection so no http app is going to work.
KarenLorr 1
what happens in an area where there is no internet connection If this is a desktop app why do you need an internet connection. You didn't on the last media browser, just turn it on and it worked. Edited August 1, 2014 by KarenLorr
ebr 14863
You don't have to turn off wifi in that area. You simply won't have a connection if there isn't one.
KarenLorr 1
And if there is no connection MB classic will not work. I have tried. Wifi on - connected to internet - everything OKWiFi on - disconnected from internet - same error message. This says to me that MB Classic needs a web connection to work. Or is there a way around this Edit - it needs a web connection to start. Once its running if you turn off wifi it keeps on running fine. Is there a setting that I have missed and I would think that no one would make a desk top app like this Edited August 1, 2014 by KarenLorr
ebr 14863
No, it doesn't need a web connection - unless you point it to an IP address that can only be found with one. But, if you have it set to find the server automatically and have your network enabled it should find the server on the same machine. I do this on my laptop all the time. I'll turn off my wifi right now and see what happens.
ebr 14863
Okay, well, I just tried all of the following: disconnected wireless connection disabled wireless adapter disabled both wireless adapter and internal network adapter In all three of those scenarios MBC started up and connected to the server running locally on this machine. I have it set to find the server automatically and to show the logon screen. So, I'm not really sure why you are having issues in any of those scenarios. KarenLorr 1
Sorry to say that somethings just aren't worth the effort. See attached PDF of the Norton Security Warning regarding MB server As I said to start I have been using MB for ages now. Due to me having to reload all my systems back onto my laptop and had to download the latest MB. It doesn't work as well as the old one. I've deleted it. Back to Windows Media Player (not what I wanted, but hey, it'll do)
ebr 14863
So, the issue was that the server wasn't actually installed on that machine?
Basem 0
I have exactly same issue, The MB3 client is unable to connect to the server if I just removed the gateway from the computer server network settings which of course disconnects the internet connection, I am able to ping both IPs (the computer server & the remote client) so there was no problem with the internal communications. I'm using MB3 + iPad Client Basem Hegazy Edited November 18, 2014 by Basem

I'm using MB3 + iPad Client Basem Hegazy I don't think you do have exactly the same issue as this thread was about someone running MBC on the same machine as the server and I don't think that person actually had the server installed. Please open a new thread in the appropriate forum with more information. Thanks. How to Report a Problem
