Airbender 113 Posted October 11, 2013 Share Posted October 11, 2013 Storage Enclosure System vs NAS Hello I am wondering what would be the safe route , i am thinking to get 8 Bay Storage Enclosure system and not go with NSA NAS is expensive and had better file system support and so on but 8 bay storage enclosure comes so cheap Example one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132016 Example two : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816111168&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL101013&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL101013-_-EMC-101013-Index-_-ServerRAIDSystems-_-16111168-LM2A Both are cheap and i can save up someone in a month or 2 to buy it Now as far my understanding even if i add 8 Hard drives still i am limated to 16 TB and anything over 2TB wont work so that is little limations just there so wnated to run by the guys here and see what everyone think Please note: when i do the math Storage Enclosure will be around $330 with tax and 1 4TB around $160 and flexraid around $65 But these are cheap and on supper sale deals not sure about quality and so on so before i make wrong purchase and run into non stop issue and so on running by you guys Thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

By doing JBOD and let Flexraid handle it, you bypass all those RAID issues you see in all the review, etc... you main focus would only be on hardware reliability and quality (fans, etc...) and limitations (max drive capacity, etc...). gcw07 347 Posted October 11, 2013 Share Posted October 11, 2013 I say NAS all the way. Yes they will cost more, but you can't beat the size or the fact that they just work. There is no fiddling, there is no setup. You put a hard drive in and start it up. Add more when you want. To me the extra cost is worth it for the ease of use and stability. Been using them for over 2 years and not a hiccup The only issue I have ever had with them is with trying to use flexRAID. The nightly stuff would take well into the next day, but I was advised of that before I tried. Flex Raid has a separate option also (29.99) ***On a personal note, I tested Drive Bender in the past and it wasn't a good experience... And it is less configurable then FlexRaid... Maybe latest versions are better... Update: I was wrong, they offer redundancy: Never tested this.....
