Remote/Keyboard Shortcuts pop up

Why does this pop up on the screen when I shuffle play a TV show? Is there a way to turn it off? It's been happening for a long time now but I've been too lazy to ask until now. :)

That is a legend that will appear whenever the menu bar has focus (although there is an option to turn it off).

You didn't show the whole screen in your pic so I'm not sure where focus is.  Are you saying it appears at some other time?

Is that player bar (play all, shuffle, play unwatched, etc) what you call the menu bar? I'm not sure what the menu bar is.

Like I said, it appears whenever I shuffle play a TV series. I am doing this entirely with my remote control, which is why this is particularly undesirable. I simply navigate to a TV series, press the play button, arrow over to the shuffle option, and press select. Then this pop up appears.

How is it turned off? I've never noticed an option for it but maybe that's because I don't know what this is called. It seems like it either should be off by default, or shouldn't appear when making use of the player bar.

After you hit select on shuffle, where does the focus land?  I'm betting on the menu bar at the top right of the screen...

Chocolate General/show shortcut legend.

You are right - it lands on that menu. I've turned off the option, but one way or another it seems like a bug to me that using the play bar (play all, shuffle, etc) causes that to appear. Maybe that bar shouldn't transfer focus to the menu bar? Or if nothing else, maybe the option should be unchecked by default if it's not already (it's possible I turned it on at some point not realizing what it was - the option isn't named very well IMO). At any rate, I'm glad that won't pop up for me anymore! Thank you!

The whole point of the legend is to teach new people about the available shortcuts.  Having it off by default would completely usurp that purpose.

It is a problem that focus doesn't go back to the list but those kinds of focus issues can sometimes be a bear to get to work right in WMC.

I get your point about disabling by default. It would be better if the focus issue could be figured out, but otherwise it seems weird to me to show a popup like this when the menu bar has focus. Would it not be better to have a menu option or config screen or whatever where the user could navigate to see keyboard shortcuts? If not, it seems like it should be MUCH easier to turn off the screen than it is (I never figured out where the option was myself). This is almost first time setup related. It doesn't seem to me to be something you'd want to show up forever, especially in a 10 foot experience environment.

Just my 2 cents. It won't matter to me anymore now that I've been told how to turn it off but IMO it may be an annoying problem for quite a few people as time goes on so it seems to me that rethinking it a bit would be worthwhile. Again though, it no longer matters to me so whatever you think is best...

Thanks for the help.

If you are a first time user you will navigate to that menu to see what you can do there and/or when you are looking to do something specific (like, say, mark something as a favorite).  When you do that, you will see the legend that tells you all the other options that are available but are basically "hidden" by being only accessible via a key on your remote or keyboard.  This seems very logical to me from an early user standpoint.

If it were anywhere else, most new users would never see it and never discover these other options.  The option to turn it off is where it is because it is a feature of the Chocolate theme, not MBC in general.

Again, makes sense. If you aren't ever able to solve the focus problem then perhaps at least rename the option to "show remote/keyboard shortcuts legend" so it is harder to overlook. In retrospect I'm not sure how I missed it, but I did. Maybe part of it was the term "legend" which to me is not helpful. Exact wording would've helped I'm sure though.

Heck, with as much real estate as you have with that popup, throw in directions to disable it at the bottom. Then it becomes completely irrelevant how hard it is to find. :)

Just my two cents: noticed this also (we use the play all/random/new options a lot) and the focus does return to the top ('options'?) menu after using it - regardless of whether you select an option (click or Enter) or go "back". I'd suggest this is unintuitive - the focus should return to your prior location (an item - show, movie, season/other).

I don't disagree with the tool-tip short-cuts menu being there - it's useful, especially for new users - just that the focus shouldn't move to it.
