What happened to Google TV? This is something I really want, one device that can do it all but I need cable TV. For now I have an htpc and the roku but one low powered device would be great.

Google TV got scrapped.  They started over and are re-branding it Android TV.  They have been working with silicondust for use with the HDHomeRun variants for Live TV.

This has to be demoralizing for Microsoft. You spend 5+ years building Xbox One. You tell everyone the device is worth $500 because it will control your whole living room with voice, live tv, online services, games, etc.

And then Android TV comes along and matches every single feature at 1/4th the price. What do you do at that point. (Yes with less powerful games, but good enough for many and will have all the games from the play store).

There are so many platforms.. I am not  sure how developers keep up. Smarts TVs, amazon fire, roku, android TV, apple TV and the list goes on.

Silicondust has an app in the android store. Doubtful that you will be able to record or pause live TV.

I like the fact that Android TV's will act as cast receivers.

I like the partnership with silicon dust. I can't wait to see what sort of support there will be for live tv.

I think your spot on there however that is the mistake that microsoft has continually made with its products. This just shows that these sort of products dont require an huge price tag and because of that, they will sell in huge numbers. Personally, I dont think it will be too long before this sort of device becomes the main way in which people access media rather than cable/satellite subscriptions.

I don't know if you can do it anymore but people were able to fill out a form with what they were working on and Google was sending free dev kits.

I'm really looking forward to the release of Android TV! Have they already announced the date? With Fire TV now started in the UK and Germany Google has to bring it before Christmas.

which is only because we were too late. it doesn't really matter as the sdk is available and the devices will be too soon enough.

looks like the first of these is getting finalized outside the adt-1 dev box... so 99$ price point is nice even if itll likely have the gen1 first-adopter issues

beat me to it, I saw this http://www.theverge.com/2014/10/15/6982375/google-nexus-player-android-tv-set-top-box-announced
